Absolute computer noob seeks help for computer build

Dear all, really appreciate your help towards a gaming rig which is value for money, good enough for non 4k gaming with a nice enough screen (not sure what's 144hz all that g sync free sync)

Personal:
-budget 1.5-2k with a monitor (non4k gaming)
- dota2, hopefully some new games, dragon age (my old laptop can't even run dragon age origins)
-never over clocked before, so i don't need to pay a premium for the possibility to tinker
- for me, value for money over top end stuff. I don't need the bestest and newest, just good enough with a good price to performance ratio
- no particular brand loyalty, but read a lot of posts by people here on ryzen. I5 or i7 no preference either..
- SSD thinking of a Samsung evo 500 gb
- supplementary hdd of 1-2tb
-ram 16gb, value ram can alr
-graphics card.. No need absolute newest, maybe something one or two releases old? 1060?
-mobo - no need bells and whistles or led lights, looking for just a basic air cooled case so everything is hidden anyway. Smaller form factor even better
Hopefully have inbuilt wireless card or happy to get something like Bigfoot
- is sound card needed at all? If I'm using headphones
- no clue regarding power
- probably cooler master fans?

I have no clue where to start, if go sim lim sure get carrot chop until become carrot purée can feed baby alr. Thank u all computer experts..

Firstly I say go for Intel CPU to save you the headache. The problem I faced with AMD twice in the past was always its quality. Don't forget, the Ryzen is AMD's first new processor in 5 years. Yes it may be cheaper than Intel, and some say faster. But Intel is always about efficiency, effectiveness and reliability. i5 and i7, not much of a difference these days unless you are super hardcore FPS gamer. Within i5 range, you can take the top tier processor. Will last you a good 3 to 5 years.

Secondly, monitor you can try getting Phillips. IMO they provide the best bang for the buck. Cheap and good quality. Just need to take note between LCD and IPS.

Sound card and wireless card are really not needed nowadays because most motherboards makers have very decent onboard sound card and wireless card. It is more important to get the correct headset or speakers. For mobos, you can go with Gigabyte or MSI. Once again it is always about reliability for me and these 2 brands are up there, especially Gigabyte.

Now the most important is GFX card, this is the main thing you should invest most on as it will be the difference in gaming. For me, I will go for nVidia graphics. In my opinion Gigabyte and MSI usually are the ones who are able to extra the most from the chipset for the best performance. HOWEVER, the best bang for the money is Leadtek. I have used all 3 brands mentioned through the years, and I love them all. I have not tried EVGA, Asus, Palit or Zotac so I cannot comment.

For casing and cooler fans, Cooler Master are the best in terms of quality and aesthetics. But be warned they are not necessary the cheapest. In terms of power supply, get at least 600 watts.

ROM is read only memory. Harddisk is not classified as ROM.

Money saved from the power consumption of the harddisk (at most few bucks per year?) does not justify the reliability of the harddisk especially when you lost all your precious data.

Not sure what your issue with Seagate was, but it works fine with me all through the 20 odd years since I first built my own pc. I have heard of back experiences of WD before too. Sometimes luck also plays a part, the piece or batch maybe of poor manufacturing quality.

But I have always make it a point to have more than 1 copy of my important files. So in case if sometimes goes wrong, still have a backup.

My last assembled pc was around 1.3k.. Specs: GTX 1060 6GB + i5-7500, 250 GB SSD (owned), 1GB HD and 8 GB RAM.

I've also used Node 202 mitx case for small form factor it's bit hotter than bigger case but It should not be an issue.

If you also want to save try buying at Reddit I bought windows 10 x64 for 50 SGD, I haven't tried that carousel below but I heard word of mouth review from my friends @ Reddit

I find the GTX 1060 perfect if you're aiming for 1080p gaming like I do. But you need to check first what type of games you're planning of playing my experience with i5-7500 was horrible playing with Black Desert Online with around 70-80% CPU utilization usage so I can't open another heavy application while gaming (sux for me)

So tldr- which brand/versions best?

Also, how do I calculate the wattage that I require so I don't spend too much on a PSU when it's not required?

well if u want so call bang for bucks will be zotac GTX 1060 3GB with 5 years wty(2+3 years)

GTX 1060 power consumption not that high even in gaming, a 450W~500W should be more than enough, but base on sing reco its should be more than enough for the power usage.
