I've just passed all my F papers, and need to decide if I want to do the oxford brooks degree.

Based on my average score, I will only get a second lower degree regardless of what I get from my OBU report submission.

I would like to ask, do you guys think it is worth for me to do this oxford brooks degree?

And for those who did it, can you recommend me some good/cheap online mentor and where to find good resources for it?

Will be really great if you can share some sample reports with me so I know what is expected of me?

Thanks so much!

Cost of submission of report is around S$380. Cost of mentoring, depends on your mentor and can range from anywhere between free to $800+ for school.

Which is much cheaper than a full fledged degree?

The reason I think why there is this OBU degree is to equip students that had completed up to F9 a paper qualification so that they could continue on to other post graduate studies. It is also seen as a mark of achievement since back then ACCA did not grant any certificate until one completed the whole course.

After getting the OBU, you could still go on to complete the whole ACCA by finishing the P papers, or you can do what my distant relative did; she completed all the way to F9, got the degree, and just moved on to look for jobs.

Haha, it's auto opt in.

Anyway, I do not know much about this OBU thingy(as in the expectations etc), and had difficulty finding mentors, so I'm here asking for advices.

1) It is a useless degree.

2) It is only good when you style BSc(Hons) in your name card.

3) It is hard to explain what is ACCA to uneducated uncles & aunts but it is easy to tell them that you have a degree (Please note that ACCA is never a degree).

1) Not really, else no one will take it in the first place.

2) For people in the accounting line, I guess it is more (borrow EDMW language here) satki to have ACCA, CPA credentials in the name card.

3) Not only them, even some working professionals who are not in accounting needed explanation as well.

Chill bro. ;)

I didnt know is auto opt in...cos we did make a decision to opt in before completing F7-F9. I suppose u opt in automatically(unknowingly) when u first join.

Anyway, if $1000 is the reason why it stop u from getting oxford brookes degree. Then I think is not worth it for u.

For me, I would go for this degree since it just take one last effort to only complete a project submission after your completion of F papers.

Now you think if it is worthwhile to:
1) Spend about $10k for ACCA and just got a professional Cert for ACCA + advanced diploma(after complete lvl 2 + professional ethic) + Diploma (if u took F1-F3).
2) Spend about $10k + $1k more for ACCA cert + OBU degree + advance diploma + Diploma (if u took F1-F3).

We can advise you but is ultimately whether you think is worthwhile to try out OBU degree or nt.

If you really keen to do your oxford brookes degree and find a personal mentor, you can do a search in this forum thread...there is a guy here who provide freelance mentoring on OBU projects.

anyway i am sure if your grade is first class for F paper, you will probably have higher interest in getting this OBU as it look good with such a classification on the degree.

Ultimately, an ACCA cert is still most impt to get a CA singapore but a complimentary of OBU will not harm you either right?

OBU is definitely worth taking because by paying less than $1500, you get a degree that gives you more options. At the moment, some SMU and NTU Masters program (not sure about NUS) has accepted ACCA graduates and the OBU degree plays a part in their acceptance. To be truthful, not sure if they will continue accepting it though.

But this is a good price to keep your options open and not allow certain employers from delaying your promotion because you don't have a degree.

There is a new mentorship firm that is really serious about mentoring. It has some very impressive results. you can check it out at Learning Luminarium

OBU might not be as prestigious as Cambridge or Oxford but it's still ranked 48 in the 2015 UK Universities (Oxford Brookes University - Complete University Guide). Hence, it's among top 50 UK universities.

ACCA being a globally recognized professional body would not associate themselves with OBU if OBU were not credible.

Since this is a project based curriculum, I personally feel it's worth it as you'll be given a degree and you can use it to further your MBA. Some institutions do not recognize ACCA for entry into MBA. They need a minimum degree if you do not have sufficient years of working experience.

I just received my results for Period 28 OBU submission and I passed in my 1st attempt. If cost is a concern for you, you can consider online mentoring, which was what I had. It's cheaper and equally effective.

You can PM me if you like to know more about online mentoring, I can recommend my mentor.
