Could anyone feedback on the teaching style for the 3 lecturer for paper P2?

(1) Kaplan's Suzannah,
(2) LSBF's Roy
(3) LSBF's Sami

Thanks in advance.

go for sami. heard his consolidation method is the fastest and easiest. but take note that p2 is more of frs knowledge paper.

I personally took F9, P2 and P4 under Sami (won't fall asleep in his class coz he is always funny). I recalled for P2 class, he will spend more time on the major standards and briefly go thru the minor standards (simply becoz there are too many FRS to be covered). After which, he will go thru past year exam Qs (e.g. extract from a Q on a particular FRS). For theory, he will not write whole chunk of text for the ans. Rather, he would roughly explain and then give precise points for the ans (he likes to draw arrow down and link from point 1 to point 2 etc). I actually find it easier to absorb the contents in this way.

By around lesson 13 or 14, he would have covered most of the FRS, and he would start with the consolidation (SFP, SOCI, Cash Flow) Qs. He would teach students the shortcuts to prepare the FS quicker. IMO, his method is effective and really saves time, but students need to be mindful of the workings (e.g. must know that this particular adjusting entry will affect retained earnings & OCE), as too many adjustments will make it a bit messy.

Last but not least, he will draw a lot of stars around the FRSes that he think is critical for the upcoming exam.

Hope that helps.

hey.. I actually been surveying around, and from what I gathered, GSW is really great. He has 32 prize winners and I saw his notes too.. like I mentioned in the other post, I seriously don't think he can produce so many prize winners if he is like what you have said. I will give his class a try.
Nonsense. People get prize winner is not solely based on the lecturer. If a person thinks that he can score well or pass just because he has a lecturer who produces prize winner, then something must be terribly wrong. It's good to hear from you that you think GSW is great. You and him are a perfect fit. However you can't deny the fact that he 1) is late in giving out exam kits 2) don't talk much in a lecture if he is sick 3) give questions for you to do and leave the room and then return to give you answers verbally without even concerning whether you understand the questions. Actually i'm very amazed that despite what he did in class, you are full of praises for him. It makes me wonder whether you are a staff of SAA. If you think he's that great, then carry on to enrol in his class. When you are sitting in his class and then he pulled a stunt on you, well, you can only sit back enjoy and prepare to be lost.

For those who wants to take GSW's class, you should also prepare to go for his revision class. In his revision class, he will go through questions that he had no time to cover in his main class and the most shocking thing is he will teach you new things in the revision class that you didn't learn in the main class. I took his revision class. From 645pm to 1015pm, we only went through 3 partial exam questions. He told us to read the question and attempt to do it. Then for the next 20-30 mins, he will walk around the class and then leave the class and 5-10 mins later he will return and then verbally run through the answers with you. He will photocopy the answers but you can only get them at the end of this lecture.

Only took Sami's class so no comments for the rest. Sami's main class is 90% calculation based. Important standards like FRS 12, 37, 39, etc will have more emphasis. For the consol part, he tends to place more emphasis on the part which didn't come out in the last 1 to 2 exam sittings. I remember there was 1 period that because the previous sitting had only SFP requirement in Q1, he spent alot of time drilling in CIS. In the end, SFP came out again.
If you take Sami's main class, you need to take his revision class. He can spend up till 3 hours or 1 lecture just to go through theory in his revision. In P level papers, learning how to score through calculations is not enough for you to pass. It is always the issue based questions that made people flunked P2 by a few marks.

I took Suzannah's class and i found she is ok. Very clear to explain concept and nice handwriting. One bad thing is she spend too much time in the assets frs then very rush after the first 10 lessons. The console method she use is exactly the same with LSBF's Sami's method. In fact after i have compared kaplan and lsbf lecture notes, the majority of question used in class are the same, just that kaplan lecture note focus more on details thats why the lecture notes are damn thick.

congrates to all finishing your F2 and F3 exam these 2 days. :)

please let me know if your exam kit is available for sale.. I am trying to rush my CBE exam before they change format in Feb.
Sorry cant offer higher than $40 for both .. because after Feb , they will be useless..

Are you going to rush though the entire ACCA syllabus? At least until F9? Because I am in the same state as you and for some papers ACCA is going to drop its support for the Singapore variant.

You went to his trial class and i went to his main class. Seriously, if u did attend his main lecture, you will know what i'm talking. In his class, he will spend noticeable time talking on topics not relating to acca or accounting. Then he will throw questions to u, give u some time to do the questions while he leave the classroom to teach OBU students in another room. Then about 15-20 minutes, he will come in and then verbally tell u the answers and then throw u another question and exit the room again.
His exam revision kit is late. He promised to release the kit about 2 months into the course but in the end, we receive the kit about 2 weeks before the end of the main class.
Have you ever attend a lecture where the lecturer didnt talk for 95% of that 3.5hours? I did and it was his class. He had flu and sore throat. He should rest and postpone the class for his well being and for ours. Also, we spent so much money on the course and we expected to receive quality teaching. I don't expect lecturers to be free of illness but at least have some rest to recover.

this i agree, dont take him for p2 or f6

he will save all the exam techniques in the revision class

Hey guys,

I think I am taking F4 Corp and Biz Law, F6 Tax, F7 Financial Reporting and F8 Audit. I know F8 is AP Chee from LBSF that is good. Any other good lecturers for the rest?

You think it is possible to clear those 4 papers in one sitting given I would have roughly 3 months to study full time at home?

can one

i did f4,7,8,9

one seating and passed all

going to take 2,3,6&7 one seating next sem

and that was working half the time too

drop support.. for sg variant ? .. i am not sure abt that.. i am just rushing because in 2015, i want to start internship under SQP program. If i complete until F9.. then i get full exemption for the foundation for non-acct graduates.

i believe that there will be no more P modules for sg afterawards since you need to go through SQP to be a CPA. Probably just int variant.

Kaplan or LSBF do have oxford brookes degree programme for student. You do not need to be an existing student under them to go for the degree mentoring course to prepare your RAP project.
