Why do you need an accounting software to practice?

Can always formulate an excel GL linking to PL and BS to practice your double entry.

Is just like a cashbook

Hi
i have been reading the acca thread for some time, and have some simple qns.

1) how do i go about register for acca? is it thru the acca website or the tution provider eg saa/ kaplan? also, can i go down and register instead of applying online? can i apply anytime or do i have to follow the register intake date?

2) the acca 10 yrs limit means applicable only just for the 14 paper exams? Or all the exams, 36 monts experience and inclusive of the 13 objective?

3) i just completed my diploma recently, though haven't got my cert yet, probably in late april- mid may, but i want to apply acca in the coming week, well, i know for non-accounting diploma can only start from the f1 paper onwards, say if i were to apply next week, will they consider me as only o lvl cert and let me take the foundation-level qualifications which is meant for o lvl, or will they be kind enough to let me proceed from the f1 paper onwards, knowing that i graduate from local poly but just havent got my cert yet?
i want to start acca asap, so i dont want to drag long...

4) last qns is when applying online for acca, that this exam entry procedure which i have to choose when (june or dec), how do i know when to book for my exam when i need an rough estimation to know how long to study for the test? and i tot booking exam is thru the tuition providers eg kaplan/stf/saa?

anyone/ seniors can help me with these? i try searching ans from the hwz for acca thread or the acca website, but cant seemed to find the ans i need, any help is appreciated greatly... :(

Hi taywk26,

Just to check, have you already registered with any of the tuition providers? I'm taking the preparatory course for ACCA exams with LSBF. I started in Feb this year, gna be taking exams in June. It's already halfway through the course, so I doubt you'll be able to start halfway. If you wna take the June exams you can sign up for revision classes in May, but I'm pretty sure it'll be too rushed...
I suggest you apply for the July intake and have your exams in Dec, and maybe self-study for now or get a job to gain more experience?
Regarding the registrations, I went down to apply @ the admissions office for LSBF at springleaf tower (tanjong pagar).

The 10 years limit is for students to complete and pass the 14 ACCA papers.

Regarding your last question, like Merryman said, people usually study for 3 months then 1 month revision before exams.

Really hope this helps! :)

Can I ask where is your ending point? You can use one software but it won't be the same once you join big4 with their bespoke software or MNCs with SAP or other ERP.

Take Myob and Xero for instance. They are both accounting softwares but differ greatly IMO.

What you can do using a software is that there are more fields to key in specifics (I.e. remarks, country, currency, linked accounts etc) for you to prepare management report or financial report easily.

I think you need to understand the mechanics of the operational side of keying each sales or purchases instead of practicing it directly on a software.

ACCA exam

Hi,

Does anyone know if we need to take ACCA papers in a particular sequence? I think syllabus for F2 (management accounting) and F5 (performance management) are quite similar, so can I take these 2 papers first?

Likewise, F3 (financial accounting) and F7 (financial reporting) are quite similar, can take these 2 papers after that?

Can someone who has taken all the papers advise me on the best sequence, albeit the easiest way, to take the papers? So that I do not have to study twice for similar topics. :s13:

Please advise, thanks.
