Worth checking a few other things. May find that full time classes have a lot more students in than part-time. These full time classes are designed to meet visa rules so are aimed at international students. Part time is aimed more at those with jobs (so evening and weekend typically).

Some schools will give full timers longer course for their money, because being international they may not have much work income, and language may mean they need longer to understand teaching in English.

Also, some part time classes are shorter because students want shorter (due to job concerns), and because smaller class size allows faster teaching pace.

Try both - mix and match!
Oh.. This information is useful. Thanks :)

I was initially deciding between Kaplan or SAA but i read on forums, some students said that one or two lecturers from SAA will be late for class, longer break time and sometimes even finish the class earlier. So i went to Kaplan instead. I find the lecturers there at Kaplan are always punctual and they will not rush off after lesson and stuffs like that. So i guess i'll stick to Kaplan for now, until the new school u were talking about, opens, then see the reviews of the school.

Mix and match meaning u suggest maybe i could take part time from sch A n part time from sch B? I was working and schooling, but it was REALLYYY tiring. So i decided to just study from next year onwards. Thinking of taking 4 papers at a time. Do u think it's possible to pass all 4 if i spend all my time solely on my studies?

It is possible, but u REALLY need to spend a lot of time studying and you need to start early meaning, start to study seriously from the first lesson. Because by the middle of the term, you will already be overwhelmed with information. There is so much things to understand and memorise for 4 subjects that you will feel like giving up if you don't start early.

There is also a lot of thing to memorise. U need to have the info in your head, it is closed book exam.

I tried studying one whole day.. and the next day I am just tired out... maybe i need to improve my study technique.

For some subject like F8 and P3, I prefer lecturers in SAA. E.g AP Chee for Audit, I passed my retake audit paper after I went to his Revision Class. The first round, i did not take lesson under him. So subsequently I went to his P7 class and revision class... I also managed to pass in the first round. But still, there are failures in the class... so it really depends how well you are comfortable with the lecturer's style of teaching.

But SAA facilities and "environment" cannot match kaplan's.

Oh.. I enrolled under the MSER cuz i havent get my diploma transcript yet though i'm done with the modules just this August, so i joined the pro-rated classes. F3 is a little, just a little of what i've learnt in secondary school POA. So far, i still can manage. As for F2, i find it a little complex. It's like, it seemed so simple when the lecturer do the question step by step but when i try to do the question, i'm like lost somewhere. Lol.. Hopefully i can catch up with the F2 lesson. Gonna spend the next 2 to 3 months just studying these 2 papers and take 4 papers from next year onwards.

Hopefully i can pass all papers with one try and get the qualification in the mid of 2012 =D

oh!

i nvr went kaplan b4.

u mean kaplan better facilities & environment?
I've never taken a class there. But when i went to Aljunied CPA building to do the registration for enrolment, i went to SAA to get the ACCA brouchures. I find it quite 'old' and since it's a neighbourhood area, i believe, kaplan, has a better environment. Was considering taking SAA 'cus its nearer to my home, but my dad thinks that i should go kaplan as he feels that kaplan seems to have a more conducive learning environment. But hearing what konnichiwa says, i think can consider going there for a particular paper if the lecturer is good.

Hi all,

When going thru the singapore acca site, there is adaptive and variant paper, what does this adaptive and variant paper means? Does this means that there is some variance in the study text that we can used?

Thanks in advance

Actually, the "overhaul" is not so bad on most papers. Don't let it worry you too much.

There is a student forum in UK called www.accountancystudents.co.uk where this has been discussed a bit - look for posts by Clare Finch.

That is perharps true for F5, but it doesnt concern F6 as it involves local taxation. Maybe lecturers like james kwok and yvonne paint a gloom picture to make students study harder.:(

all depends - if you are a Sing resident you can choose evry paper from a different college if you wish.

Those here on student visas will find it very hard to switch college once they start, as their visa is tied to the school they use (quality control over boh the college and the students!)

Point taken - and I am not a tax expert so cannot really comment on how the Sg F6 paper might be changing for 2011. I know the UK paper is getting Inheritance Tax added to the syllabus - but IHT does not exist in Singapore, or am I wrong?

As a NUS BBA (2nd upper Hons) graduate who scored perfect score for CFA L2, I can say ACCA really very hard to study. Kudos to those who took ACCA.

Which calculator is approved for ACCA exam? Can I just use my Casio calculator?
