not really a tough paper, but the mark allocation is the problem,
you do not know how many marks will be deducted if u screwed up certain area...

just when i walked out of exam hall i recalled a lot of stuff that i did wrongly~

f4-memory work

f5-based on f2 foundation

f6-calculation

f7-based on f3 foundation

f8-memory work

f9-based on f2 f5 foundation.

am i correct to say so?

Hi,

Anyone did F7 this round? I have question on Q3.

This is a ratio question. 2 financial year financial statement was given. SOFP and SOCI.

In the information provided, it stated that due to economy downturn, there were impairment loss. The loss exceeded the revaluation surplus. The loss was charge to SOCI.

The current year SOCI profit for the year was in the red. The previous year was still in the black.

My question. I removed the loss from impairment and then compared the ration between this yr FS and previous yr FS. Is this correct?

Regards,

Regards,

i did this paper,

frankly speaking there is more than 1 way to analysis qns,
as long as your analysis is reasonable you will be given credit,
and yup i mentioned abt the impairment too as reserve was closed and no disposals and acquisitions occured during the year...
the decrease in fixed asset value is due to depn, revaluation and impairment loss
and yes u may proceed on to describe removal of the loss and calculate the new ratios...
for me i do not have the time so i just proceed on:D

yes generally u are right...

but take note of f6,

there might be theory qns also...

and the examiner is "very indirect" in asking those small qns

to be frank, as a full time tudent, i realised that textbook usefulness, or rather, i am concern with its uselessness. going to kaplan every lecture makes u more than enough.... i rather believe in attend lectures, make notes, and do exam kit than to study the textbook. infact, i always wonder, why do we need the textbook? every idea is being go through in lecturers, and the exam kit is full of questions, with explaination to answers....

thn again, if u do go sch everyday

for remembrance purpose, keep as collection and maybe free time can read..textbook has more example if you need some example to explain further. not much use but at least it helps a bit..heh

but yah, going lectures and be attentive is more than enough if you understand every single detail and remember them.

Make this Sticky!

No Idea how to make a thread sticky, but here are some tips for ACCA exams from me, a tutor with 15 years of experience (F8, P1 and P7), a former Kaplan director, a former examiner, and the Academic Director of a leading college (soon to be in Singapore as well as Uk and Canada).

I say all of the above purely so you believe what I say - this post will not mention my company or my name.

EXAM GROUPS

The ACCA exams come in 4 groups, and you cannot start the next group without trying to complete the one before.

The groups are F1-F3, F4-F9, P1-P3, P4-P7.

EXAM COMBOS

The 16 ACCA papers happen over an 8 day exam period, with 2 papers being sat at the same time - so these pairings are impossible for students to sit.

F5-P1
F7-P2
F9-P4

These are the most likely to cause problems - and you may not realise your mistake until April 15 (August 15) when you try to enter for exams, weeks after you started your courses (so your college are unlikely to give you a refund).

VARIANTS

Where laws/regulations differ between countries, the ACCA often has a variation on the exam paper specific to your country.

If you sit this variant, it helps you to become a recognised accountant in YOUR country, but may not be of much use overseas. So consider your career plans!

It is possible to study UK tax and law in Singapore if you have plans to move abroad - but of course you will have plenty of opportunities to study Sngapore tax and law if you intend to work locally.

THE PAPERS

ACCA exams tend to be all words, or a mix of words and calculations. The wordy papers typically require an ability to explain, not just memorise.

From my viewpoint:

F1-F3 = memorise (but try to understand)
F4 and F6 = memorise
F5 and F7 and F9 = understand and practice
F8 = think, practice, plus some memorise

By the way, by memorise I mean learn (try to think, not just photographic memory)

From p1 upwards it requires an ability to think, because requirements will not always be the same. And quite right - life is not the same, and different clients will throw things at you from different angles.

OVERALL

It scares me how few students have read and thought about the Examiner Comments from the previous sitting. Read them. Ask your tutor about them. Passing the ACCA exams is about UNDERSTANDING what your examiner is getting at. It is not hard.

The problem, is that most students think the aim is to memorise loads of facts - something which gets you nowhere in the real world

Do not think how we depreciate assets. Ask yourself this - could you explain to someone WHY we depreciate assets?

I hope this helps.

I've heard that F6 will have a new examiner. Not sure how the Jun 2011 questions will be set.

the exam dates are available on acca website. f7 and p2 are always on the same day. how are you going to be able to appear at the same time for both papers ?

maybe postpone your p2.. and do a f7, p1, p3 ?
