I took James class before. I must say he is a good lecturer. BUT, you have to prepare yourself for his style of teaching. He is, in my list, the strictest lecturer I have ever came across. My top 2 list.

Still, I must say again, he is good and if anyone ask me, I will say I will go back to him if given the option again.

AGAIN, please, bear in mind he is very demanding. He will kick you out of class if you do not do your homework, or go to class unprepared. So, if you are the type that do not want to do homework/assignment, assigned by him, OR, attend class and just hope to listen and not answer his question when he asked you. Please dun join his class. I have personally seen student asked to leave the class. He wont step down from his principle even if you report to the mgmt.

I hope if you are attending his class, look from the perspective that he is demanding for our interest. If you are not able to look from this perspective please dun attend.

About 1 to 2 questions a week? He's actually a very approachable lecturer and would explain until you understand :)

guys, would it be advisable to take acca without any accounting background?

i'm going to ord in a month with only o lvls (phd)

getting into accounting course in poly would be impossible with my l1r4 of 19.

what would be the best option if i plan to go into the accounting line?

from the way i see you all talk about acca is like suicidal for people with no accounting background :s22:

i'll be 23 this year and i don't want to waste any more time if possible

if you are afraid you cant understand the basic principles of double entries, try to find an accounting assistant job. with job experience while studying, you will appreciate double entries more and find it easier to understand. but finding the job would be a challenging task since you no cert or experience.

otherwise do acca full time and read more accounting books to strengthen your basics. dont bother to do CAT then ACCA, that's a long route. i believe you'll be studying hard enough to close the gap with those who's got prior knowledge before enrolling into the course. with hard work, you can finish acca in 3 yrs.

fyi, i did acca at age 24 and completed it at age 26. u can do it too

I did consider taking accounting and finance to gain exemption into ACCA but i think with a banking degree and an acca cert will help me keep my career prospective more open ?

make up ur mind you want a banking career or accounting career? acca cert will not do much help to your career if you are into banking career. u should be looking at CFA like the others advised.

Yup. As cesc88 had said.\ But the impt part was left out. The question, although only 1 or 2, can be quite demanding. If you type out the answer, sometime he expect 2 or even up to 4 pages of stuff with single line spacing. Font 11 or 12.

Getting it wrong is not a problem. He will help you. No worry. He won't tell the class you are wrong. He want to see you putting in the effort to answer the question.

That is for assignment.

I think you are asking about question he asked in class. He will ask quite direct question. For eg, you learned some theory. Sorry cant recall. eg, there is this definition and for it to be applicable, you need to meet 4 condition. He will ask you for the definition or for the 4 condition. He won't ask question that is very mind cracking. :D

Or, sometime in class, he ask you to try some question. Some student just sit there doing nothing and expect to wait for answer to be written so they can copy. This is a NO NO. Or that when question is ask, student cant be bothered to answer when asked to answer. This is a NO NO. =:p

Sorry for asking this question.
For the exams, what time will it be? Morning, afternoon, evening? I know it is during the weekdays so I may need to apply leave from work. Thanks
