ya. this is their very first intake in sg. i am going there just because of sami.
as someone who has taken F9 and P4(the advanced finance?) under sami some years back, i only hv praise for him.

his focus is only on exam techniques and helping students clear the paper.

Where should I take F4 and F5?

Hi, I just found out this forum. I think it's very useful in sharing the information. Took F1-3 and F8 in June. Now I am considering taking F4 and F5 for Dec Exam.
I took my course in Kaplan. But now I am considering SAA, LSBF and Kaplan. 1 thing I don;t like about Kaplan is they do not provide textbook and the e-textbook is not user-friendly at all. Heard that SAA provide SG variance of textbook for F4. How about LSBF?
I am considering LSBF becoz of Sami who is recommended by many students.
So any suggestion?
I am considering 2 options:

1. If I were to Sami's F5 at LSBF which is on Thur, then I will not be a ble to take Kweh Soon Han's F4 at Kaplan. Is there any other recommandation for F4 tutor? (both SAA and Kaplan)
2. If I were to stick to Kaplan, who are the tutors I should register with?
3. I am open to other suggestions too.

Thanks everyone here! =)

PS. F8 is really chellanging, esp. I am just begining with F1-F3. I was adviced by Kaplan Admin staff to take F8 instead of F4 first. Was told that students taking F1-4 at the same time usually didn't perform well for F4, that's why she suggested me to try F8. I only realised that it's just another killer paper.. :S

Advice on P4 and P5?

Can someone advice me on which option paper to take? I will be taking P3 together with another option paper the coming seating.

I'm in such a dilemma!! should i take P4 or P5??? I saw the past year papers and P5 looks much easier than P4! I thought of working in the audit line for 2years or so then.... find something else to do, but i haven't thought of it yet.:s22:

I will definitely will take P7 but i'll be taking it the next seating, together with the OBU report...

Flowerpod >> F5 is Saminathan... but if you don't want to go LSBF try Mary Tan@Kaplan, I took her F2 class before and I think her teaching is OK. I don't advise Hoo Sen Kai, he just came from teaching in Malaysia, I went for his preview class the other day and found his style extremely irritating and his "jokes" intolerably lame.

F6 is Yvonne Goh who supposedly is going LSBF, but having gone for both her class and Joanna Cheong's class at Kaplan I find their teaching style very similar (same notes as well) so if you don't want to risk waiting I will advise going for Joanna's class.

Tackey_Kong >> You're not the only one, I was just at LSBF today also, their admin is seriously screwed up, the guy beside me was also complaining. Seriously if not for Saminathan's sake there is no way in hell I would have joined the school. I had to wait ONE HOUR+++ just to finish registering due to the general confusion/lack of manpower. Kaplan is like heaven compared to this.

They wanted to charge me $30 to change my module selection because they pre-emptively "enrolled" me when I went for a previous visit before the exams although I made it clear my mind wasn't made up on my module selection, fortunately I argued my way out, wasting much of my breath and energy along the way. What's worse is that they do not accept credit card payments!! How many people own checkbooks nowadays anyway especially students?! Now I have to waste time going to the bank just to pay the fees.

What's worse, their ads claim that you can get referral fee but the person denied it once I was there.

Conclusion: If you think you can survive without Saminathan DO NOT JOIN LSBF, at least not until they get their house in order. Kaplan, SAA are better choices. (can't comment about FTMS coz I've never studied there)

EurekaH >> Kaplan lecturer told me that due to the unpopularity of the "e-textbook" scheme (duh) they have scrapped it for the new semester and will be issuing hard-copy textbook for all modules from now on. I had to source my own textbook last semester as well thanks to this. Of course if you want to play safe you can enquire with the staff while signing up.

As for your questions about F4, I have attended classes under both Kweh Soon Han and Terence Tan and both of them are very knowledgeable, lecture quite well, and often have interesting stories/jokes to tell. HOWEVER, Terence Tan's lecture notes are very screwed up and messy. Worst lecture notes I have come across in my time at Kaplan or anywhere. "Point form" facts jumping all over the place in sometimes haphazard order. You might get confused just looking at it. The "notes" he write in class i feel are quite useless as well due to the general messiness. Kweh Soon Han's notes are much much neater and better organised. You can listen to Terence's lecture for understanding but for revision I advise you to stick to your text or use someone else's notes.

p.s. Kaplan admin smoke you la. F8 is a killer paper. I took both F4 and F8 last sem and I can assure you that if you study everything you can't fail F4, whereas F8 is a lot more on application and understanding so it's very much easier to fail.

Would it be advisable to take F5 & F6 paper 1st without completing F4?

You can probably take any paper in any order you like as long as the examination dates don't clash, but of course you need to complete level 1, 2 & 3 in order.

LSBF admin and communication sounds screwed lol... think if your paper got other lecturers out there then go for it. The employees there probably all new and still getting used to the routines.

u need to view also ur examinations this semester and next semester as well, last time i dint check properly, so took F5689( togther, never clashed) but F7 clashed with P2 next semester.... the staff arnt ACCA affiliates so they wont know anything about it.

F4 is a stand alone paper and requires no other knowledge and thus will not affect other papers. F8 is a full theory paper and is also almost standalone. thus these papers can be completed if u satisfies the requirements(F1-F3), at any time u are comfotable with. candidates with better comman of english do have an advantage in these papers.

I suggest you look at the exam timetable. (Which is always the same for every seating). I always suggest not taking back to back paper as much as possible. Like some of the comments that has been posted. F4 and F8 are standalone papers with no over lapped with other subjects.

Please please please bear in mind that you cannot take papers from the next level without completing the previous level. Meaning you are not allowed to take Level 2 papers without completing Level 1 ones. UNLESS you are taking it concurrently in one seating.

i am not too sure if it is normal cos i went over immediately when they first released the news that sami will be there. apparently, when i was there, it was just me and another lady signing up so they have all the time for me and answered all my queries.

btw, do note that they only accept payment by cheque or bank draft. pretty troublesome seriously. i really think people are signing up with them solely because sami is there!

from july intake 2011 onwards, kaplan will be issuing physical copies of textbooks again :) they have gotten feedback from students on e-text not being very friendly haha

F4.. definitely mr.kweh soon han, if not.. go for terence tan ba :) but terence tan's notes are in point form, imo, quite messy also.

sami is a must! good luck with your choosing of timetable :) hope u can get the best combination of tutors!

i feel that options should be chosen with passion/interest. afterall, its the interest which will bring us further even in times of difficulties.

there's no point taking a paper purely because of its easy/higher passing rate. i too will be taking P7 next Jan, taking 1 option this July. had a really hard time choosing between P4 and P6 though haha :)

btw, upon completion of your acca course, you can also take up other options paper(s). it will just be a standalone certificate though, not shown on your Professional level certificate.

guys any recommended lecturers for p3, p4 and p5?

P3 - Kaplan (Andy Tan), FTMS (Marty Windle), Domnic (might be LSBF)
P4 - LSBF (Sami)
P5 - LSBF (Sami), Roy (might be LSBF)

i am not sure about the lecturers at SAA, hence i left them out.
