Hi, I have just completed ACCA F papers and starting the P papers soon. I have just started working in an audit firm and will be continuing my P papers. Currently thinking should I go ahead with the OBU. Or the OBU will not make much difference to my career progression as long as I get the full ACCA cert?

obu will probably set you back by less than 1.5k sgd. assuming 800-900 sgd for mentor fees and 400-600 sgd for submission.

good to have but not a must to have.

alternatively, there is a new collaboration between UOL and acca. you can try their masters. forgo the obu if needed.

So anyway for Jan 2016 intake I am taking F7 and F9, and I'm intending to try either Kaplan or LSBF. Can someone review/recommend their styles?

Kaplan:
F7 - Nicholas Woo
F9 - Lee Pei Yee

LSBF
F7 - Roy Goh/Sami
F9 - Sami

Which is better?

I've only taken my ACCA lessons with SAA so far (had bad experience with Kaplan lecturers during my CAT way back in 2009), and just sharing some of my experience with the different lecturers.

Last sitting (July 2015 intake) i took:
F4: Adrian Hoe - I didn't like his style of teaching. Feels he like to talk big, and his notes a bit hard to digest. I ended up skipping most of his classes and self-studying. And no, I honestly don't think it's because the paper is 100% theory. It's really the method of delivery.

F5: Ian Lim - I've taken his classes more than once *ahem*, but I like that he keeps us practicing the questions over and over in classes. His notes and question banks are pretty good.

F6: Lee Yuet Lai - Her notes are seriously good. But if u miss classes, good luck. Better make friends in class to copy from, haha. She's good, explanations are quite concise and highlights the main points pretty well.

F8: Phillip Woo - One of my favourite lecturers. His method is more of the "scold you until you wake up" kind, but he simplifies the audit theories and makes it easy to understand. But he talks like really fast, and I think some people don't like him. A lot of stories to tell, but okay lah quite interesting.

Previous intakes:

F7 - Saw many people recommending Ben Lee so I tried his class. Personally I found it awful. Maybe it's just me, but I couldn't digest his class. A lot of lame and not funny stories. Maybe our sense of humor different level la haha, but I'm definitely not taking his classes again (yea i failed and had to retake)

I guess in conclusion, my preferred method is those more "direct" lecturers, more serious ones. Can joke lah, but please don't spend half the lesson talking nonsense :s13:

based on what you have mentioned and if you are still in saa, i guess the following lecturer will probably suit your learning style.

chow kim tai (f9, p4)

for p1 you can consider both lecturers.
for p7, daniel chee is preferred.

chances are if you took daniel chee's class for f8, you will probably take his p1 and subsequently p7.

Dear all,

I have completed F1 to F5 of the ACCA modules. However, due to the new rulings of the Accountants Act, I am confused. Some of my friends told me that I am unable to get the Chartered Accountant title via ACCA and that I need to take the SQP route. If this is true, can i get exempted from some of the modules at SQP from the modules which I had passed in ACCA?

Some of them mentioned that I need to complete all modules of ACCA by 2018 and at the same time, have 3 years of accounting experience. Then I will be able to get the CA title. Is this true? If that is true, I don't think i am able to complete that as I am taking ACCA as a part time learner. Am I screwed because of this new ruling? TIA for the help in answering my questions.

Yes, you are screwed because of this new ruling. Base on up to date information, ACCA is not recognize for CA Sg. You needs to take SQP route which is a degree & ACCA-oxford brookes university degree is not recognize. As for exempted modules at SQP, it is a case by case basis.
