Access point slow speed

I have 2 routers (additional besides the main router connected to ONT) in my house setup as access points.
However these 2 routers speed is always at 80Mbps or lower when using speedtest

When i connect wifi to my main router which is connected to ONT, the speed i can get 400+Mbps on speedtest.

Any idea how why the speed difference? Thanks.

2 routers are xiaomi 3 router and dlink 868L
Main router is tplink ac1200

Please run iperf. One pc connect by Lan to the tplink ac1200. One pc connect by Lan to 868l . Perform the iperf test.

Once done , remove the Lan cable from the 868l and connect it to the Xiaomi 3 router. Perform the iperf test and report the results here.

How do you connect the 2 AP routers to the main router.. via wired or wireless.

If you connected via wireless the AP routers speed will drop to half of the linked speed.

If possible do use the DLink DIR-868L as the main router since this is the best of the 3 routers.

Btw what is your ISP and plan.

The 2 access points are wired connected to a port (i think its a LAN port) in each room.

Main router connected to ONT. and each LAN port of the router is connected by a CAT 6A cable to something (is it called a switch?) which has 5 ports. So If i want bedroom 1 LAN port to be working, i connect the main router LAN to switch 1. If want bedroom 2 LAN port to work, comnect main router LAN to switch 2 etc

Switch is a box where it will be auto detect on the connection and may required separate power adapter/source.

DB box junction do have Data Points for connection to the other data points with marking on number assigned to other rooms &or locations.

Your description is more on data points and LAN 1 & 2 refer to rooms data point location.

|- Room 1 - Data point -> AP router 1
|- Room 2 - Data point -> AP router 2

Xiaomi Router 3 is lowest of the 3 routers due to specification.

Wireless signal will depend on the bandwidth on either 2.4GHz or 5GHz.

Getting 80Mbps for other routers mentioned in your post could be due to using 2.4GHz bandwidth &or SSID.
If you set the phone on 5GHz SSID then wireless signal from DIR-868L should give you the same or better speed as main router.

i do not use 2.4GHz as my phone/laptop is configured to auto connect to 5Ghz only.

But both AP (868l and xiaomi) gives speed of only 80Mbps. which i do not know why.
I tired to disconnect xiaomi and use only 868L as AP. Strangely still get 80Mbps.

let me switch the main router from tplink to dlink and revert.

Have you upgrade 868L firmware to latest > 1.21 version.
As from version 1.09 onward there is improvement on the wireless signal.
Please do read the instruction on the upgrade on the Release Notes.

May not be necessary to swap the routers since you are on wired connection.
The only benefit would be the features on routing for main router.
Since the cause of wireless low speed would be resolved after the firmware updates.

Hi, i found the reason.
Its my Ethernet cable.
The 3m cable gives speed of 80
Tried a shorter 1m gives speed of 200+
