That's hard to answer without knowing what risks you're trying to insure against. What risks are you concerned about?

I think for newborn, the first insurance you should get is the Hospitalization & Surgical plan.

Probably the next 6 years, the child may frequently visit GP when they get sick. This can be covered by some company insurance if they covers the child's GP panel visits.

Yes medi plan first then accident. So far 1 claim for insect bite and another when he bumped head learning to walk.

did u get a hospital plan for your child before this?

if yes, do you think aia star shield still necessary to get on top of hospital plan?

In my personal opinion, accident protection for a newborn is of least importance. Coverage for serious illness e.g. serious meningitis can land a child in NICU for more than 1 month at $2K per day.

You're right, a H&S plan is still more important than an accident plan if you need to strictly priorities the needs.

Otherwise, both plans are a good idea to have simultaneously.

Why isn't basic MediShield Life sufficient for H&S policies for kids? I did not buy them any H&S policies as don't mind them staying in B2 and C wards where there is a lot of subsidies... find that the extra premiums I pay about the same as a hospital bill. As I worked in government Hospitals before, I know that the serious cases all have to be reviewed by senior Drs so the classes does not make much difference except in comfort levels. Not like a senior consultant will see u first instead of a house officer if u r in A ward.
