Seeking an accommodation recommendation from folks who had been to Guangzhou. Understand that travelers usually stay near to Beijing Road or Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street and I am fine with either one. Preferably less than $130 per night. Thanks!

Nice compilation of newer hotels and thanks for the link! Tentatively shortlisted citynote shangxiajiu from the link as citynote beijing Road is unavailable during my travel dates. Do u think staying in shangxiajiu area is comparable and not worse than staying in Beijing Road?
Also shortlisted Nomo Apartment and South & North International Apartment, both not new "hotels" and are located at Beijing Road.
Any views? Hope to get the accommodation to-do list ticked off to focus on others.

From a tourist's point of view Citynote Shangxiajiu is a better choice. It is within the confines of old Canton and Shamian Island. At the same time it is within walking distance to Haizhu Square and the Pearl River.
Thanks for the recommendation, Mercure looks good too, the same with Citynote. I have looked through a couple of shortlisted hotels and currently occupying first in line would be voco Guangzhou Shifu for the bigger room.
I also plan to buy our coldwear there when we arrive and not in SG for the subsequent trips out of Guangzhou. From my online reading, it seems like Shangxiajiu is a better bet than Beijing Road as Shanxiajiu might have more varieties and better priced. If my understanding is wrong, pls tell me.
