Actual usable space on iPhone 6 plus

i bought an iphone 6+ 16GB yesterday, i see that the capacity is only 11.5GB and the worst thing is i only have 8GB space left now and i didnt even install much apps. i only have instagram, carousell, shazam, hayday, meitu, kik messenger, waze and chrome and these are considered not big! i also only have 15 photos in the phone. do you think something is wrong somewhere? should i bring back for an exchange?

Nothing wrong with your iphone 6+; my iphone 6+ is 64 GB, available storage is 55.45 GB. iOS 8 takes up a lot of space.

at least you still have 55GB left. its barely a day since i got the phone and with only 8GB left, how to survive for 2 years?? it didnt occur to me ios8 would use up so much space. previously on my iphone 4S i had it for almost 4 years and 16GB has always been enough.

Newer apps and OS always demands larger capacities than older ones and one day, 16GB capacity will be obsolete and in this case, iOS 8's file size is over 2GB as compared to previous iOS releases which are less than that and installation requires and even larger space.

Hence, should've gone 64GB instead and by regular usage over the years, should already know how much u need in future wih monitoring of how much capacity is left in your phone.

If you think you won't be able to survive the next 2 years with only 8 gb left, my advice would be to sell off your present 16 gb iphone 6+ & buy another one with 64gb & take it as a lesson learned.

If you plan to change it to 64gb and bought it online from Apple Store, you may try to call them for a return and buy a higher capacity.

U can't assume the 4S's 16GB will be the same for the 6 plus' 16GB. I've used the 4S before (32GB) going to the 5S (32GB) and now the 6 plus (64GB). Both the 32GB 4S and 5S are enough for me, using around 18GB for 4S and 21GB for 5S out of the 28GB usable capacity which is quite near to the limit. From the transition between these 2 phones and different iOS, I knew the space demand is increasing. Take note that my apps are similar with equal number of songs as well.

Before I decided to get the 6 plus, I knew I had to get the 64GB (obviously) as having a larger space buffer is always safer, as it was said better to have more than just enough. Since in your case now, space is very limiting, why not try to do some housekeeping? Only keep those you need, unless you need them all then have nothing to say already.

App Thinning is a new feature that optimizes the install of iOS and watchOS apps to use the lowest amount of storage space on your device.

Each app will only download the parts it needs to run on your model of iPhone by slicing your app into multiple “app variants” dependent on which handset the user is using.)

Nothing concrete just rumours till the next release.

I'm using a 16GB iPhone 6+ have the same thing as TS. However I don't use a lot of apps etc so 16GB is more than enough for me and I still have iPhone 5 as backup anyway. Once iOS 9 is out it would be a lot better! With App Thinning and small OS. iOS 8 is about 4GB+ while iOS 9 is less than 2 so you will get some space back!

same lah, 4S also got 12GB free after u upgrade to ios8. just that nowadays apps are getting bigger
