hey my friend now has 8gb ram. He wants to upgrade to 16gb ram. Should he get the exact model or add a brand new 16gb ram or can he add other brand/model?

His current ram: (Kingston 4gb x2)

The reason why he want to add is to try to reduce lag. He is a heavy google chrome tabs user and has a lot of programs also, that's why he wants to add ram.

sell off his Kingston 4gb x2 and get the 8gb x2... I believe your old ram is 1333Mhz and the new ones are 1600Mhz...

He also can upgrade to SSD as a boot drive and where OS installed on. This will really make a difference.

Sell off old better meh? In terms of price saving. I'm at the exact same situation except different speed and different purpose (for future proofing before ddr3 eol)

some motherboard very fussy, if not same exact model of ram then will give error. for compatibility issues best is to buy the same exact model

If troublesome to sell just grab 1x 8gb from lazada for less than $50 after coupon

If don't work sell the old 1 cheaply and use that money to buy another 8gb for less than $50

Risk free
