Hi experts, i bought Dell 5567 lappy but it only comes with only 256gb ssd which is not enough for music and movies storage.
It is ok to add 1tb hard disk? is it recommended? shall i add another 8gb ram to to the existing 8gb ram?

please advise,thank you

depends on which drive u getting, but most likely will not slow down since u are still using your ssd as main drive.

well if u want to upgrade den so be it, it wont make your pc damn fast anyway.

since for one esp on youtube and downloads its relies more on your connections to be LAN instead of wifi. (although u might have better wifi card bust still nothing beats direct connections.) as for mircosoft i think dun need so many ram but if u are loading quite a lot of excel files and other tabs maybe need more rams.

Grats on getting a new lappy :)

For question 1: Adding of additionalHDD - have to look at slots. Is your current SSD a M.2 (stick type looking)? Does your laptop have additional 3.5” drive storage bays? Keep the 256gb as your primary boot drive for Windows then add on an additional HD. Note it might have a hit on battery life.

Alternatives: SD cards, Thumb drives, External Portable HDDs

For question 2: 8gb is sufficient for your usages stated in the previous thread. Ram prices are high nowadays. Save up. Depending on model, some laptops have soldered ram - such as Dell XPS(s)

Open it up and see if there is a free SATA port/ M2 slot to be sure. Don't buy the drive and realize that there is no additional connectivity and you would have wasted your money.

Looking at your laptop’s maintenance and specifications manual.

There is only one sata slot. M.2 slot is used for Wifi and Bluetooth combo card.

There are two ram slots. Ram type is DRR4 & max supported is 16gb.

Seems like the only way is to replace the ODD caddy with a HDD caddy. Then place your existing HDD into it while you insert the ssd into the existing HDD space.

I did this for my friend's Lenovo 310.

This is possible, but somewhat risky. I opened one of my laptop previously thinking that I can use the SATA and power port for the ODD. Turns out that the connection is fixed and arranged in a way that I cannot plug it into the SATA and power port behind the hard disk. Some manufacturers do that so you cannot convert it to a hard drive.

thanks bro, meaning can i add hdd ?

With only one SATA port, your only option is to get a SSD with larger storage space. If you get online, you probably can get a 1TB SSD for below 400 bucks. For me, I am using a 512GB SSD plus an additional 128GB of micro SD card to increase the storage space for videos and pictures.

Storage space vanish? C: drive has 200GB (SSD), but all the files in C: occupies only 50GB (measured by select all folders and use properties), yet the storage shows: Capacity 200GB, Used space 199GB, Free space 1GB. What happen to the ~150GB missing?
As a result, unable to update Win10: as it says need 8GB.

Did you do a disk cleanup and make sure you select the clean up system files? Each Windows update consumes considerably amount of storage space, plus it also keeps a copy of all your previous Windows version which will burn through your hard drive space.

IIRC, Lenovo and Dell do allow HDD caddy in place of ODD caddy. But, the only way to know is to check in Youtube. Perhaps can search for dell (xxxx) hdd replacement. The xxxx is the model of dell in numbers.

But the next hard part is to find a suitable caddy for the hdd. Can try ebay but may be ex. Not sure if locally do sell.

For my lenovo, the SATA/power connector on laptop is different from PC type. But the caddy address this issue with a built-in adaptor to allow normal 2.5" hdd/ssd.

The micro sd must it always be removed like thumbdrive when u turn off the pc or can always place inside the slot in laptop ?

can be place inside without removing. unless ur bios set ext device as the main boot drive, best u go in to the bios to change your ssd as main drive. otherwise u have some issues.
