Adding old RAM with new RAM. Did I do it correct?

I have a new PC which has G.SKILL RIPJAWS V 16GB DDR4 3600MHz CL18 . I also installed my old Crucial Ballistix 16GB 3200MHz into the new PC. Went BIOS and set the voltage at 1.35 V and to run at 3200MHz. Motherboard is a MSI B550M Pro vdh.

Task manager and BIOS detected the 32 GB of memory and so far all seems to be working okay. Did I do it correctly? Thanks.

In before some come argue with me.
By right is cannot especially with XMP profile, long term wise the motherboard
will fail.

I have a couple of motherboard here which before it died, the RAM were mixed.
Example Corsair and ADATA XPG, some will say can but by right is cannot.
Cuz different manufacturer the memory IC as well as CL timming are different.

If you mixed the motherboard will just tuned according to both set A and B.
Long term wise the PC won't be stable.
So if you want 32GB is best to either get same RAM that means all four G.skill.

Crucial Ballistix 16GB 3200MHz is no more discountinued few years ago.
Or you really want to reuse these 2 different RAM disable XMP else either the
RAM or motherboard will fail.

I speak from my own experience not anyhow say.
As well as if you buy brand new G.skill RAM inside already have warning
not to mix RAM.

Yes, running at the lower of the two speeds will be more stable. You can verify by running memtest486 or other memory test.

it's fine

just test stability with testmem5 (1.5hrs)

Actually any brand of RAM can mix as long u noe how to config.
If error occurs, either wont boot up or always blue screen.

honestly sounds like survivorship bias... the ppls who mix and match ram generally have much older pcs so that might be why u see it so often, the older pcs failing over time just happens to have the mixed ram and there are probably much more ppl mixing ram with no issues at all

If you want to mix can turn off XMP, different RAM modules has different memory IC and timing.

You can read G.skill FAQ:

We do not recommend mixing memory kits, regardless of brand or model.

By mixing memory kits together, there may be compatibility issues such as unable to boot or unable to operate at rated specifications.

Each of our memory kit are thoroughly tested to ensure compatibility within each memory kit. And because we have not tested our memory kit with your existing memory kit, we cannot guarantee compatibility when multiple kits are used.

Please also note that the G.SKILL QVL applies to single kit compatibility only, so mixing two or more of the same memory kit is not recommended.

Ya... I guess unless you know how to tune the ram exactly, you shouldn't be trying to mix and match ram

So long as you run it according to the lower specification of the 2x 2 sticks of RAM you are safe.
However gerenally it is better to use 2 sticks only as 4 will increase the loading of the IMC and can (in some cases) cause instability and crashes.
