Hello all,
I have a Seagate Free Agent Desktop External HDD 500GB that cannot be detected by the PC. I have tried changing the USB cable but no good results. The HDD is receiving power and the light indicator of the case still flashes. I have contacted Seagate for support and was directed to Acacia I.T Services at 20 Bendemeer Road to look into the case. Went down and had my Ext.HDD opened up to access the hard disc inside. Sad to say, no much help given and the guy there just told me it is dead. He mention he does not have a docking station to test too so I am not sure how he denote it as dead.
I went back home and test it out on my dock stn. No detection as well. Contacted a friend of mine and we discuss to have the logic board changed and test again. Have not change the board yet as I need to get the Torx screwdriver. The Hard Disc is not showing any symptoms of death, no clicking sound, nothing. Just normal moving of the platters inside but I not sure why nothing is detected by the PC.
I will getting the board changed as soon as possible but I need to prepare for the worst. I have precious stuffs inside and I failed to back them up. Most important are my family photos. If it is really dead, how I retrieve them? Of now I know Acacia services offer is $1k. But that amount of money and at the same time the thought of the precious things inside the HDD. Any help or advice? Any shop or service you know of that can provide the same service but at a lower rate. I now really regret of not backing up in another place. I preparing for the worst.
Thanks!
