Hi butties,

Thinking of getting a new rig to replace my current ancient one. Would appreciate all advice to help me out on the different components to buy as well as reliable retailers who can help assemble. Thanks much!~

Some terms of reference:
1) Myself - Possess basic knowledge but not tech-savvy enough to know the subtle differences of different chips, Mobos, Gfxs, HDD, RAM etc...Too long never kept myself up to date with industry developments.
2) Components required - basically the entire CPU. not going to salvage anything from my ancient rig except the HDD.
3) Budget - Around $1.2k - 1.5k (including OS, preferably Win7 64-bit).
4) Main usage - Surfing, gaming (non-graphics intensive), video streaming

Would you need a monitor? Keyboard mouse? Wifi?

In fact this type of light usage you can go for pentium g3220

Msi h81i itx + g3220 ~ $170
Crucial 8gb 1600mhz ~ $89 (or a 4gb ram)
WD green 2tb ~ $106 (for all kinds of movies storage)
Kingston v300 120gb ~ $115
No need for a gpu
Seasonic g360 360w 80+ gold modular psu ~ $88
Coolermaster elite 130 ~ $89
Samsung ODD ~ $21
Windows 7 home premium 64bit oem ~ $115

Total ~ $793 buy at tradepac. Diy

I will recommend something more "future proof" :p

i5-4570 + Msi b85m g43 ~ $347
Crucial 8gb ddr3 ~ $90
Kingston v300 240gb ssd ~ $199 or Crucial m500 240gb ssd ~ $165 (amazon)
Wd blue 1tb ~ $76
Zotac 750ti ~ $205
Samsung oem drive ~ $21
Fsp aurum 500w 80+ gold ~ $88

Paying more does not mean it will last longer or futureproofing it. Always take note.

That's why I " " the word :s13:

However should he wan to convert it for more work or gaming purpose it does give him more power and options in upgrading

ok thks.

so with this mainboard u recommended, i dun need separate Gfx rite?

If u think u dun need gfx it's fine, the CPU has a inbuilt gfx hd4600

Good enough for normal usage or even light gaming

But I included the 750ti just in case u wan to play some games as well :s12:

my 2k Q6600 rig died on me after 7.5 years. lol

dunno if its cpu or mobo dead
my current rig also lasted me around that time length....i never upgraded anything except adding a 500GB HDD

hence the need to get a new one as all the problems start building up...
