Hi Guys,

Would like some advice on building my PC.

Took some advice from the links below:

http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/hardware-clinic-2/need-help-recommendation-diy-pc-5381057.html

http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/hardware-clinic-2/please-give-me-budget-gaming-pc-build-5276585.html

The rig:

CPU+Mobo: i7-4790 + Asrock H81M-HDS @ $510 (PCThemes)
SSD: Zotac T500 240gb @ $82.50 (Lazada)
GPU + PSU: Zotac GTX 970 4GB twinfan + LeadEx 550W Silver power supply @ $559 (PCThemes)
Case: Corsair Carbide Spec 01 @ $79 (PCThemes)
RAM: (8GB x 2)Kingston Hyper X fury DDR4 2400Mhz CL15 @ $139 (PCThemes)

Can help me identify the bottleneck and if i missed anything out/worth it?

TIA!

PS: How do you guys negotiate cheaper? Also, how would you advise to plug into 2 monitors that uses only HDMI if i use the GTX970? Can i get a Displayport to HDMI converter to do the job?

Total: $1370

what about the specs? like say if top up $20 - $50 for a next level item, i don't mind.

Just trying to get the best bang for the buck here :s12::s12::s12:

Anyway base on ur build i rather u change the following:

Get i5 4460 instead of i7 4790 unless u really need i7 performance for video or rendering. if this is so get a H or Z board.

AS for ram, the mobo dun support ddr4 and they can use ddr3 valueram like Kingston or curical which is much cheaper.

Bargin with them. AS for your monitor u will have to connect 1 to hdmi and to DP. well converter is normally not recomend but u can ask those shop if they have sell it.

1) Do you really need i7? If gaming + normal usage, an i5 will suffice.

2) GPU and PSU can consider getting from lazada as well. People are speculating that the gtx 970 will have a price drop. So you might want to wait a bit and see.

3) H81 motherboard can only utilise DDR3. No point spending money on DDR4 rams. If you want to save money, 1 stick of 8gb valueram is enough for most games.

Perhaps let us know your budget and requirements so that we can recommend a build for you.

The thing is i have 2 x AOC i2367FH, so i have to connect either by VGA or HDMI to it. But i understand that GTX970 only have 1 HDMI port?:s11:

if this is so den yes u can only use both of them so 1 of the VGA will need a vga to dvi converter. the other will use hdmi.

im looking at a budget of $1k to $1.2k

i think the requirements as follows:
CPU+MoBo (As long as its fast enuff for light gaming and web designing/flash purposes)
01 x SSD for fast boot up
16GB RAM (I find myself opening too many tabs on my Chrome while working
01 x GPU card (Something in between; doesn't have to be a GTX1070 but neither should it be a very lousy one that gets phased out the next moment i buy it. )
01 x Case (No real requirements for this, except for USB 3.0)
01 x PSU (Enough to power up the PC)

but will the quality of the VGA to DVI be shi**y?
Will Display port to HDMI be better?

well i cant comment much on this issues as i have tried it before, not that big differences that my naked eyes can see. and most of the time, if u see quality is bad or good still depends on the monitor as well.

As for DP to HDMI. this i cant comment it at all, since i have not done any readings on it.

then you shouldn't buy 970 now because it is already appearing at the bottom in benchmark charts ... see liao feel sad

graphic+psu bundle @ shop not necessarily savings , you can get them separate @ lazada use coupon twice

ddr4 ram also cheaper @ amazon ... less than $80 sing dollars can get 8+8gb 2133mhz , while your pricelist quote still $139

Hi Guys,

I just realised that the Mobo i quoted above is an older generation LGA-1150

I was thinking of future-proofing the thing:
So here is the revised one:

CPU+MoBo: (i5-6600k + Gigabyte GA B150m-D3H) @ $502
SSD: Zotac T500 240gb @ $82.50 (Lazada)
GPU + PSU: Zotac GTX 970 4GB twinfan + LeadEx 550W Silver power supply @ $559 (PCThemes)
Case: Corsair Carbide Spec 01 @ $79 (PCThemes)
RAM: Kingston 2133MHZ CL15 @$47 x2

for a grand total of $1316.50

As many hwz-ers said, i will probably put off the purchase of the GPU

Where do you see the charts? I check in Passmark... still quite up there in performance leh

well do u need to overclock? if not can get i5 6400/6500.
as for gpu need to wait a few months later to see any price revision/adjustment.

Which ddr4 2133mhz ram 8+8gb on amazon less than $80sgd? I see lowest is $59.99usd.

but overall it looks fine? Im not so sure whether the MoBo is right for me though

yes, i might overclock - im just worried i will fry it. Any guides on how to OC? do i need a separate cooling system just to OC slightly? (Not going to push to the edge)

overclock need many many hours of reading if start from zero

http://www.overclock.net/t/1570313/skylake-overclocking-guide-with-statistics/0_50
example in this thread it states the flow on OC the cpu first , ram is last to OC
many people don't read the guide , straightaway post at last page they enabled ram XMP first because it is 1-click then ask how to stabilize CPU oc .... didn't put effort to read ....

+compatible motherboard
+compatible chip
+capable cooler

if just +200mhz +400mhz that kind , don't bother ... not worth the trouble or potential instability

yes its looks fine, but still depends on how many features u need from the mobo, if not many can get b150.

if u want to overclock get a i5 6600k+z170 board, as the boards have lots of headroom for OC. still there is a possible fry if not doing it correctly.
I have no guides, but u can google for it. Yes u will need it as they dun come with it. As for pushing it how much are u going for the boost? 5.0GHz? or lesser?

not that easy to fry as long stay within safe voltage and temperature with capable cooler
1.4v is the recommended safe vcore limit for skylake ... 1.45v for custom watercooling

most ppl's 6600k and 6700k reach 4.7ghz cannot push higher without going into unsafe voltage although temperature still got headroom to 100celcius

prolonged high temperature high voltage will degrade the chip .... means bluescreen more often need to reduce the speed or up the voltage
it is gradual death , not suddenly fry
