Hi all, Looking to build a new work station. I have chosen the following components and need your comments, recommendations and advice. ;)

Processor: Intel X99 5920K

Motherboard: Asus X99 E-WS or plain ol' Deluxe
(have pre-ordered and paid deposit for a Deluxe since E-WS MIA :( )

RAM: Corsair DDR4 Ram 16gb or Geil DDR4 Ram 16gb

PSU: Seasonic 860w PSU OR Corsair AX860i PSU

Case: Corsair Obsidian 900D Case

SSD: Samsung 850 Pro SSD

Graphic Card: Asus or MSI GTX 980 / 970s

The system will be primarily used for Video Editing, After Effects, Photoshop, Light-room and some light gaming. Running QHD+ monitor(s).

My main aim is Stability and raw power should I need it when doing work.

Notes:
i) Will be going Water Cooling for Phase 2.
ii) Might add on another graphic card to SLI
iii) Using network storage and salvaging some old HDDs as well

Any comments and suggestions are deeply Welcome. :s12:

Will start a detailed build Log here and on LTT forums once I get all my parts.

Should be 5930K?

erm ok, shall push the budget for the 5930k instead

Eh I thought you went GTX 970 sli alr?

undecided :s13: saw your post SLI so was planning to do the same
but not sure if should go Single card, wonder if SLI fully utilizes all the CUDA Cores for after effects

Inb4 your parts are too expensive/pls get all the cheapest possible parts

Like that I go Z97 and OC :s13: , only going x99 for the extra cores over higher clock speeds as rendering is much faster.

imo 5820K is more than enough for just 2 cards, 5930K is a 50% jump in costs with little/zero returns. Spend the S$250 premium on more SSD/RAM instead.

Likewise, X99-A also more than enough for your intended usage, some Deluxe owner/s had compared and say it has an actual proper Foxconn production socket vs that in the Deluxe...

My 2c.

Thanks mclipper.

I was actually aiming for WS board for the additional warranty but settling for the deluxe instead

But yup if I can downgrade the board and push the budget further, might be better to get more ram instead and will be much more useful.

Just to add on, I have a capture card and sound card that I'll be salvaging from the old system as well. Will that affect the processor choice ?

With your additional input, Asus X99 E-WS/5820K combo becomes the only clear cut choice if PLX latencies are not a concern.

Can try G.Skill Ripjaws-4 2400/2666/3000Mhz DDR4 and Seasonic X-series PSU too. :)

Get Intel 730. At least if anything goes wrong, Fedex/DHL come to your house/office

Definitely will take into consideration, especially for the PSU. Built my colleague and friends' rigs using Seasonic but choose Crosair above for old time sake. :s13:

Already leaning towards MSI 9xx(s) instead of my traditional full Asus build as well. :s12:

Thanks for the suggestion. ;)

But the SSD is just for the OS and some important software. So going with speed over reliability for that. Have my old SSD which I can easily boot into if there's any issue.
