Advice for gaming pc

Hi guys,

My 6yr old laptop recently died and I'm looking to build a gaming pc. I mainly play rpgs e.g. dragon age, skyrim, witcher 3. Hope to play these on medium to high settings.

Budget of $2k, but have to include monitor and software (windows 10, microsoft office). I'm not interested in overclocking or lights. I've been reading through the other threads here and have followed some of the recommended parts. Would greatly appreciate any advice on whether the selected parts can be further improved. Thanks!

Mobo & CPU - MSI B250M BAZOOKA & Intel i5-7500 ($467)
RAM - Corsair Vengeance LPX 2133MHz CL14 (2x8GB) ($175)
GPU - ZOTAC GTX 1060 6GB AMP TWIN FAN ($409)
SSD - OCZ 480GB SATA3 TRION 150 SSD 2.5" ($185)
HDD - WESTERN.D 1TB BLUE 64MB SATA3 ($72)
PSU - FSP 550W 80+ HEXA PLUS (3Yrs) ($68)
Case - FRACTAL DESIGN DEFINE MINI C WINDOWS ($139)
Wifi card - ASUS PCE-N15 300MBPS PCI-E WIFI CARD ($59)
Screen - Dell U2417H ($339)
OS - Windows 10 & microsoft office

Total price $1913 (all prices from PC themes)

Some questions:
1) Can the build be further improved within the budget?
2) Are there any parts that I missed out?
3) Do the parts work together? I checked it on pcpartpicker and they said "The motherboard M.2 slot #0 shares bandwidth with a SATA 6.0 Gb/s port. When the M.2 slot is populated, one SATA 6Gb/s port is disabled". Not sure what this means..
4) For the windows 10 and office, I saw some on carousell and reddit. Has anyone here tried before? Reliable?

Overpriced. Consider buying os and office from reddit or carousell. That's a few hundred dollars saved.

Next, up the gpu to a gtx1070 with the savings. Wi-Fi card looks horrible. Might as well buy from taobao for a 8260 pcie card.

Ssd not cheap I feel. But up to u.

Overall, are u going to self assemble? Also, online buying is much cheaper if u self assemble too. But currently not much promo from qoo10. If u willing to wait, u can maximize your buck.

Up gpu to gtx 1070, psu to super flower leadex silver 550w, wifi card can consider tp link archer ac1300 (same price better performance)

Buy during qoo10 or lazada sales to fit into your budget

Since you said gaming and chose wireless.
Some pcie card i would suggest is
tp-link archer t8e or t9e
Asus pce-ac68 or ac88

The t8e/t9e/ac68 is capable of utilizing 1300Mbps at 5Ghz(actual speed varies).
The ac88 is capable of utilizing 2100Mbps at 5Ghz(actual speed varies).

So depending on your internet subscription choose what's best for you.
If you signed up for 1Gbps but use 300mbps wireless card then it's just wasting the extra speed.

Some questions:
1) Can the build be further improved within the budget?
- the B250 is fine, but I'd spend that few more dollars for the H270 chipset, but comparing the specs they are freaking identical, so it could just be a pet peeve on my end. (difference is $11)
- CPU is fine
- Memory is not fine. For abit (difference is $4) more you could get CL16 rated memory. Since you're using a kabylake you'll get access to 2400mhz speeds. Why limit yourself over $4?
- Drop the 1TB HDD unless you really need it. (add price to your GPU)
- Drop the monitor to an AOC i2367FH, unless you have a very compelling reason to buy the Dell U2417H (also add the price to your GPU)
- Now you have money to buy yourself a GTX 1070
- if you're going to waste a slot on the wifi card, might as well just get a USB adapter. Get an Asus n10 and work with it till you have the money to buy a proper Wifi Card. I know and understand that you have your limitations, and if you must use Wi-fi, go ahead. Not everyone has the luxury of wireless. (Are AAA titles online games? no.) I personally feel a 300mbps N wifi card is a little bit of a waste of money.

I can explain. If the M.2 SSD or whatever runs on SATA interface, Usually Sata_1 is disabled to route the data instead. It means if you use the m.2 in SATA mode, you'll disable one of your SATA ports. Just keep in mind for future m.2 upgrades

Tried before, no. Want to try, yes. If you are cash strapped but don't want to take risk i'd go with reddit ones. There's a reason why it's a much more popular forum than local sites, and some of the carousell ones just make the price too good to believe.
