Hi all

I'm currently using Sapphire HD 7950 3GB OC version graphic card which I bought for about $400 2 years plus ago.

I was thinking of upgrading to GTX 960 4GB. I found the 2 links below from Amazon seems quite attractive

ZOTAC GeForce GTX 960 4GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDMI DVI DisplayPort SLI Ready Graphics Card (ZT-90308-10M) USD 209

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 960 4GB GDDR5 PCiE Video Card Graphics Cards GV-N960OC-4GD

Do you all think is worth upgrading from my current 7950 card?
If yes, should I wait for November which I heard will have a sale for Amazon?

Thanks!

ZOTAC? Is that brand reliable?

I also heard about it from Tradepac. That graphics card is quite cheap as compared to other brands.

What is your budget for the upgrade?

FYI Zotac is Nvidia's counterpart of Sapphire

Sapphire for AMD Radeons
Zotac for Nvidia GeForces

Both are subsidiary of PC Partners....

Very. Not only reliable but 2+3 years warranty.

Want buy, buy from Lazada on Monday or Friday.

The GTX970 makes buying a discount GTX780 is a waste of money.

Don't need to change seriously. Even 970 isn't considered a major upgrade, I'll probably consider 980 a proper upgrade.

Bro hes on budget.. but seriously if you really need to upgrade then try to look for secondhand 970 at hwz... alot of them still under warranty... but if you can wait try to save some bucks and hoot 980...

seems like most bros here advised to stick with my 7950. save $ haha.

bro krabs mentioned I should try overclock my 7950 as the stock clock too conservative. I haven't tried overclocking my 7950. What should be the safe range to overclock that?

as high as you can go in benchmarks ... then back down like 50-80mhz should be able to find your gaming stable speed

use program like asus gpu tweak to see if your card can unlock voltage control to 1.2xx volt

even if no voltage control , I think you can get at least 20% boost in clockspeed
use a more aggressive fan profile to compensate for higher heat output

will take 1 whole day to keep run benchmark and load some heavy graphic load game to test stability , expect the system to crash so no need play very serious competitive

Very easy. You stick to your 7950 because Gtx 960 at most less than 5-10% performance gain.

Or go for second hand gtx 970, 780/Ti. Even a 290x would be good

Sent from JARVIS using GAGT

You mean on par because 960 is like a slightly overclocked 760 and ... 7950 = underclocked 280 (How i like to put it) and 285/380 is rather closer to 280x than it is to a 7950.

Still, hardly a improvement for another 335$

Don't need to change seriously. Even 970 isn't considered a major upgrade, I'll probably consider 980 a proper upgrade.

970 > 980 nearly double the price leh brudder :s22:

What's the cooler on the 7950? If ref with the center fan ... better not.
