Advice For PC Cases Shopping

Hi all,

I'm almost done with PC parts research & budgeting, so last component is to decide on 1 or 2 PC Case choices...

Just wondering:

1. Is there a good place to look at cases that I can see the size, glass tintness etc? SLS, Aftershock / Techyard at Suntec City?

2. Is online purchase from Amazon or Newegg SG a good alternative, as some of my targeted Lian Li cases are newly launched so also don't know when local retailers will bring into SGP...?

I use deepcool 4 case now. Not bad too. Much wider than coolermaster ones.

Thanks for the suggestion.

This was in my initial shortlist too as it matches my new place Japandi decor theme.

But decided to drop it due to its huge volume (57l) & I like to get a fishtank case around 40-45l volume... So 1st choice is Lian Li O11D Mini V2, awaiting for its local availability...

Just read that this case can only support GPU PCIe slot from case expansion slot #2 onwards. Do current mobos & GPUs normally fit between Slot #2 to #4...? Very difficult to find such info / details, except maybe in Christopher Flannigan PC Build videos...

not sure what you mean by the GPU PCIE slot support? From the pictures on the Lian Li site, the GPU is in the first slot?

I saw this product notice on LL website:

Important Notice: Due to its compact design, the O11D MINI V2 only has 5 slots (first slot left out). So ATX motherboards that require the GPU to be installed in the first slot may not be compatible. For users with such motherboards, use of the included vertical GPU bracket is needed. Additionally, for certain ATX motherboards, the primary PCI-E slot may align with the second expansion slot of the case, requiring a GPU riser cable for proper installation.

I interpreted it as this LL case only supports those ATX Mobo & GPU combo that uses Expansion Slot #2 onwards, with other cases brands / models... Or am I confused...?

Really appreciate your advice & info-share...

Deepcool CG530 4F. Can install 10 ARGB fans.
Although is a ATX case, but it is quite small too. I can put on my desk.

My son is using Montech ATX case(I forget which model) is much taller than mine.

It's 50L mid-tower ATX case...

One of my shortlisted cases is Montech XR, which is sub-$100 local price...

oh..i guess that means you need to get an matx/itx motherboard with that case? Seems kind of weird to me.... I think you should try another case perhaps.. strange requirements with this one

After looking at a few YT Tech Reviewer videos, seems like most current mobo + GPU combos should be compatible with this LL case, as the 1st expansion slot is usually in-line with the 1st M.2 NVMe slot and perhaps the lower part of the VRM Heatsink. Thus, it'll always be covered up, isn't it...?

This is the note from a local tech reviewer, ALKTech (is he active in this HWZ forum, har? ):

"NOTE: The O11D Mini V2 supports ATX motherboards with the primary PCIe x16 slot for a graphics card located in the second slot position - this is because the case comes with only five expansion slot openings due to its compact size. If you have an ATX motherboard with the primary PCIe x16 slot in the first slot position, you will have to install your graphics card in the vertical position instead!"

He even managed to mount a Gigabyte EATX mobo into the case...! So, worse case scenario is to mount the GPU vertically as it also includes such a mounting bracket & even a vertical support bracket. But that also means I've to buy a riser cable, aka extra cost...

I'm planning to use Asus ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming WIFI mobo, based on our own local Tech 网红, KleoYz's product review YT video, 2 years ago... ALKTech also did review this mobo...

Ya. its one of my shortlisted case too b4 i get this deepcool too.
It oso has good airflow too. Now the latest GPU n CPU generate quite alot of heat so is best to get a good case.
