Hello all.

I'm interested to build a gaming rig with a budget of 1.8-1.9k.
This is what I have come up with. Prices taken from PCThemes.

CPU+ Mobo: Intel i5-9400F + Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Pro WiFi - $506
AIO: Cooler Master ML240 RGB liquid cooler - $109
GPU: Gigabyte RTX 2060 6GB Gaming OC - $589
Ram: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro LED 3200Mhz (2x8GB) - $185
Storage: Adata XPG 5x8200 Pro 512GB NvMe M.2 - $138
PSU: Seasonic Focus FM-650W Sem 1 Gold - $145
Casing: Coolermaster MB520 RBGT Glass- $99
OS: Windows 10 Home Premium 64 bit - $159
Total: $1930

Feel free to advice and change to maximise my budget.

No point getting a Z390 mobo (overclockable) when your i5-9400F can't be overclocked. Take note that if you're not overclocking CPU, you don't need a 240mm AIO liquid cooler. If you are getting it, it will be for aesthetic reasons only. So get the cheapest 120mm or 240mm AIO cooler with a design you like if you want to have the liquid cooler for aesthetic reasons.

For practicality reasons, get a beefy CPU air cooler instead of AIO (but only if you need to overclock). Masterbox MB520 RGB has 165mm CPU cooler clearance for most beefy CPU air coolers.

Can replace the rest of your parts with similar quality but lower price parts/brands/models. Just need to look around.

Windows can look for OEM license which is cheaper.

You can scout for better cooler for better OC though 212x should be more than enough for 9600k.

I would recommend getting extra case fan for better airflow, I do not know how many fans the casing will come with.

You can also shift up to 9700k but will highly recommend better cooler for OC which would then exceed your budget.

I also do not know what monitor you are using, I assume is a good one.

However, if you do not OC and has a bad monitor then you can shift the CPU+MB combo down to 9400f+asrock b360m pro4 and ram down to 2666mhz. The price difference plus remaining budget should help you get a gaming monitor.

Also, ram speed doesn't has a significant impact to intel processor. You might want that small fps gain but if you really want that fps gain, might as well get 9600k along with it to oc it to 5ghz.

Hi all

Thank you for all your advice!

I guess will be changing to i5-9600k for overclocking purposes.
I will also be looking into air cooler with RGB for practicality sake.
I'm using a Samsung C24F390f monitor.

As for GPUs, i think i will be running Battlefield V in the future and I'm looking at longevity for my pc parts.

Which GPUs will best suit my budget? Is rtx 2070 worth the $100 bump from rtx 2060?

How does different brands rate in terms of reliability? E.g. Galax vs Gigabyte GPUs.

I recommend you wait for Computex on the 27th of May first to see what's up with AMD before deciding.

TS why not wait for AMD Ryzen 3000.
See if the IPC gain is good for gaming or not.
Anyway new motherboard also provide PCIE 4.0

If not wrong, is a 60hz monitor and with freesync would be max 72 refresh rate. Therefore, no matter how high your FPS is, regardless of how good your GPU is, you will always be limited by the monitor.

Therefore, if you have no plan to upgrade your monitor to higher refresh rate, 2060 should be enough for you, for great majority of the games and that include near future games. 2070 will be overkill for your monitor.

AMD is announcing its new line of processors in few days time. It also will be announcing new GPUs along with it. AMD claim it will have up to 15% IPC gain from its current latest processor and which if true, would be on par and on some will surpass intel current latest.

Do note is a announcement, not the actual release date. It might or might not cause the merchant to drop their current price to clear their current stocks. It might or might not cause people to speculate on ram and mb pricing. The IPC gain might or might not be true, since none can test it.

Some well known brands claim to have better Engineered with the highest-grade chokes and capacitors, this graphic card delivers outstanding performance and durable system lifespan.

Yes that's the monitor I'm using right now.

If that's the case, I guess I will stick with the rtx 2060 as I have no plans on upgrading yet.

Yeah I think I may not be able to afford the new ryzen 3000 series as it may exceed my budget due to being a new chipset.

I see. After doing some research online, performance seems to be very similar with 1 to 2 fps difference. Something that is not visible to the naked eye.

Most of them differs in temp and even the noise level made. But can I draw the relation that lower temps translate to better longevity?

If the prices are anything like the present generation's launch price, it will be cheaper then an intel k chip + z motherboard.

What's the landscape nowadays between Intel chips vs AMD ryzen?

AMD Ryzen 2000 series is very competitive in every aspect.
So Ryzen 3000 should be able to close the difference in gaming within 3-5% if not higher. The rest wins due to lower cost (same price more cores or same core count at much lower price)

If sticking to Intel can save Abit more by getting lower speed ram. It doesn't really impact games that much on an Intel system
