Advice needed, CPU getting hot.

Hi Guy,

Recently i replace my stock cpu cooler to cooler master 212X.

But when running Witcher 3 game, my CPU seem to be quite hot temperature staying between 68°C to 72°C. Is that consider normal?

game running on i7-4770, 16gb ram with gtx 1060 6gb.

What's the original temp on stock cooler?

It is normal, your cooler likely not running at max speed, no reason to either.
If you want it to go lower, you need to manual set it to max speed or get a premium cooler.

It's not normal for me, I using 212led cpu cooler and my heatsink not even warm after hours of usage / gaming. But i using fuse less power cord.

thats a one in one out case
if 2 in the temp will drop a bit more

Stock cooler temperature at about 60°C - 65°C(max) for other game like Dragon quest heroes 2.

So far CPU fan control is auto. As for my case fan, I have 2 intake and 1 exhaust fan.

My CPU only heat up to 70°C+ when running witcher 3 (not on max setting, capped at 30fps)

Each game will tax a CPU differently, so you can't compare.

68-72 is normal for Intel.

Also note the 4770 is quite well known for odd high temp peaks. Lots of threads online, like:

its normal, you won't get low temps with the 212

yea...do a apple to apple comparison
dont compare diff games = =

easiest way to compare is just do a burn test for 10min

Just afraid that i might install the cpu cooler wrongly as my old stock cpu cooler was dead.

use the Stress CPU function on cpu-z can push the CPU to top. (in the Bench tab of cpu-z)

By the way, if i run the burn test or cpu-z stress test, will it damage the cpu?

After all, this i7-4770 is an old model(mobo also old model). I don't think able to find and replace if damage due to overheat

212 is a good cooler.
I using 212evo reduced my i5 4460 from 50℃ to 40℃

Suggest you reinstall your cooler again.

in my memory only old CPUs may get damaged during auto freq/voltage settings. nowadays the CPU all can protect themselves by slow down if too hot. but yes the possibility still exist, but, as you know you are stress testing the CPU, cant you watch the temperature readings and stop it by your own hand if the temperature goes above 80 degree?

After in the 212x cooler, my cpu did reduced when idle.

The temperature will only shoot up when playing witcher 3.

Will check again for the cooler again.

are u capping 30fps using witcher3's ingame option? i rem this may cause high cpu temps
try set back to unlimited to test if cpu temps improve - if improve, then cap using other method like rtss instead of in-game
