[ADVICE NEEDED] New Rig Suggestions

Hi all,
Been away from the DIY PC scene for long time ('dummified' into Mac use due to work for many years....), so need some advice on this build I am now considering. As some background, my requirements and intended usage:

- Pretty much building from scratch. Only items I can reuse are a Logitech gaming mouse..
- Some amount of gaming (type of games I like include Mass Effect series, KOTR, Doom, TitanFall 2 etc.)
- Do a fair bit of photo retouching/editing work
- Don't need much storage (have lots of external backup space)
- Don't need Wifi onboard, as will have direct LAN connection in room
- Will unlikely overclock CPU/GPU
- Seems tempered glass side panels on cases are all the rage these days. I'm ok to see the innards of the system but prefer to have minimal lighting/LED inside actually. Prefer black/monotone theme, from board to cables etc.
- Monitor size 27in, but no curved
- Budget max $3K

u can get the gtx 1070 at a cheaper price from qoo10, theres some promo going now i think
as for headset, if u need a gaming headset that has mic, the hyperx cloud or logitech 1s are not bad, if not just get any studio monitor headphones, lagi better sound quality most of the time

Well if it's a 27" monitor then you'd also want at least 2k res. Then you can get a sub $800 GTX 1080 to make that monitor shine. Prices dropping at Amazon for the 1080s.

Z270 with i7-7700(non-k)? Why not just get the K and OC it slightly (about 4.6ghz) since your cooler can take it still.

Yep, I've shortlisted the HyperX Cloud Revolver, seems to have good reviews (and I like that the mic can be removed....since I don't really use mic for gaming..maybe work conference calls haha).

I just thought the Z270 boards are more future proof hence that choice. Actually I don't really know how to overclock + also not certain if such a slight OC will in reality give me much obvious uplift in performance in the type of games I play?

I think H270 is more suited for your liking and choice of i7-7700. It still have most of Z270 features, minus overclocking and SLI support. But your ram will be capped at 2400MHz. So I suggest if you want a nice RAM, Trident Z RGB is your new best friend

Any thoughts on a suitable monitor to match with the GPU? The choices are overwhelming to be honest, not sure where to start. I'm almost maxing out on budget as is without monitor, but I guess I can flex slightly.
