I have a the years old computer that just went blue screen on me. I couldn't even read the blue screen and subsequent tries resulted in the computer not even booting at all.

I know nuts about IT, the specs or the problem. I can either send it for checks which costs fifty dollars and then repair it if the problem is small or buy a new computer.

What should I do? The said computer costs around 1k. Which is the cheaper option?

The blue screen could mean a lot of things, it could be RAM failure, OS corrupted and etc. If getting a new pc is it worth it depends on your current hardware. How old is your current hardware? If its pretty old, in the Core 2 Duo range, it is about time to upgrade.

The said computer for $1k? Could you list down the specs so other members could advise you on it?

That is the spec of your current pc. Alright. Can you try to boot up and spam F8 key after your system post, then select safe mode. see if you are able to boot up in safe mode...

Thank you for your quick replies.
Nothing comes up on the monitor. It is just black screen all the way.

I just managed to boot the computer. I tried safe mode, but it just flashes a blue screen and then restarted itself.

Hi. I just booted the computer after taking out and placing the ram back in.

I doubt it is the cable or monitor.

But it still not able to load into windows properly? again in the safe mode menu, could you select disable automatic restart and upload the blue screen you capture using your phone?

have you tried taking all parts and put them in again?
if you know nuts about IT, here is what you can try if you confident of doing it. If not just get that said 1k cpu.

before pulling them out (not the CPU) take few macro shots of every connections and ram. Even the hdd and dvd.
One done put them in again. If you're not certain, refer to your pictures. Incerting RAM. Please be aware that there is notch or slit found somewhere in the middle of contact pins. Incert them according to that notch. Once done turn it on.
If it works, hey, kudos to you! If not, try installing OS. There are many tuts in you tube.

the thing is, even if it works OR not, you did try / learn something out of it. Its gonna be tiresome but the satisfection is there ... :)

Hard disk error. Either the SATA cable is loose or your HDD is spoiled.

Try unplugging the SATA cable at both ends and plug it in again. See if you can boot. If it doesn't work, try again to be sure.

Edit: you should also try a different SATA port on your motherboard in case the problem is a defective SATA port.

If the problem persist, it's time for a new HDD. The good news is that a HDD is cheap and the rest of your system is OK. The bad news is that you are going to have a tough time recovering your data if you do not have a backup.

The last time my computer spoilt was also because of the hard disk. The current hard disk is only a year old. Hard disk really spoils easily. Thank you for all your help. I appreciate every single reply.

You were probably just unlucky to have two failures in such a short period of time. You might want to consider an SSD for your OS and use the HDD for data.

If indeed your existing HDD is spoilt, you can RMA it for a replacement.
