[Advice Needed] SUSS BSc Accounting

Hi,

I'm unsure of my route which is to become an accountant in the future. I'm looking between going straight for ACCA studies after diploma from a local polytechnic, or enter SUSS Accounting part-time before heading to ACCA, since there's exemptions? They say having a degree so im able to change jobs if I need to as ACCA is very recognised but a specialised cert?

Yeah I got what it means with related to Audit. Currently, do you feel that a degree is more beneficial for me to gain experience with finance jobs before heading onwards to take the ACCA papers?

I was thinking, taking Bsc Accountancy from SUSS, and working, while taking ACCA after I have graduated with the degree.

But I'm not sure if I'll stay with accounting jobs or be an accountant, so I think having a degree first will be better? If I'm going to take ACCA after my degree, I could apply for exemptions for up to 7 papers.

I think it would be better to first have a degree before pursuing ACCA. It helps to have a recognised degree first in case you decide that accounting is not the area you want to focus on. Even if you decide not to pursue the accounting/finance industry, the degree can get you jobs in other industries. In fact, I do recruiting for my company as well and even if the applicants are not from my industry, we do recognise the degree in terms of looking at the applicants' background and deciding his/her salary.

Personally, I am from UOL BSc Accounting and Finance (FCH). When I was studying, it was interesting to learn but I did recognise that it was not an area I wanted to further my studies in. After working for 2 years in accounts, I decided that the mundane nature was not as suitable for me as I thought. So I switched to doing business development as my full-time job and I'm currently doing the SUSS Psychology program part-time as well. So far, I do not regret the choice in taking accounting and finance as my first degree.
