SIM GE = SIM Global Education
This is the green colour logo. The most value for money is RMIT and UOL.
RMIT UOL
Easier to pass High failure rate
Only a pass degree Direct honours program (more money +
more recognition if you do well.
Mix of project + exam 100% examinations
Lecture + tutorial Almost 100% lectures only
Class almost equal local uni About 12 hours of lectures only (I
squeezed my lessons together and
worked for an accounting firm part-
time to gain experience + money)
I could be biased since I came from UOL BUT I sincerely feel that UOL is a lot more rigorous. It also provides its students with a lot more opportunities in terms of further studies and work. I have met with a senior who went to LSE (very prestigious if you don't know) for masters in economics. There are also students who went to Oxford for maters using UOL degree and some went to LSE for summer school.
Most of the 1st class and 2nd upper honours students I personally know had no problems getting employed by the big 4 or banks and are paid fairly decent. I got 3rd class honours but have been accepted to NIE Masters even though most people tell me that it is impossible.
Professional qualifications:
1. Chartered Accountant (CA) Singapore
You can visit the SQP website to find out more. Everyone that wishes to develop in the accountancy/audit field seriously would pursue this. It is a requirement if you wish to become a partner in the BIG 4 or sign off audits. You need to have minimally a degree but it doesn't have to be accounting. Its a step higher so it makes the source of your degree slighly less relevant.
This is also internationally recognised with conversion programmes (due to the differences in accounting practices, legal and tax requirements) so that you can become a public accountant at various other countries should you want to move.
2. Charted Financial Analyst (CFA)
More for investment and jobs at banks. Not very sure about it but it's pretigious and internationally recognised. Minimum degree to get it.
You can also try SUSS - formerly known as UniSIM. UniSIM used to be the red logo (same wording and size...just different colour). They continue to share the same building as SIM GE.
There are of course other courses you can try but less related to the type of studies you told us you will enjoy. Good future awaits nevertheless.
1. Early Childhood Education
Education is a goldmine that is evergreen. It replenishes faster than it can be mined. Apart from adding more preschools & childcare centres, the government has also been trying to make it more professional. Legally, there is also a small student : teacher ratio so the demand for teachers is constant.
2. NIE Diploma
This is a gamble but a very carefully calculated one. Go to NIE for it's diploma programme. If you do well enough, they will allow you to switch tracks to the degree programme. You will obtain your degree in the SAME year as students who went directly for the degree programme. What's even better? You get paid a decent sum to study and you have a good paying job waiting for you once you graduate.
Even if you don't get to switch to the degree programme, you can always request to upgrade and go for a degree after a few years of working. MOE will provide you options of (A) No pay leave - your job is still waiting for you + no bond (B) Sponsored degree (part-time or full-time) - continue to be paid + your degree is free. Bond applies. Your job is waiting for you.
