My M1 1Gbps contract will end in a month and also eligible for recontract. I am contemplating between the following:

1. recontract with M1 and go for ROG GT 6000 or
2. port to Myrepublic 1+1 game plan with ROG GT 11000

My current home setup is Asus AX88U as main router and Linksys Velop AC2200 (Triband) in bridge mode. My ONT is not at ideal position and no Ethernet cable in rooms. Current placement and floor plan attached.

My intention is to get either router above as main router and use AX88u as a node for Aimesh using wireless backhual. Will ROG AX6000 be adequate being dual band? I am thinking AX11000 may be more future proof with triband?

Any advise is appreciated, thanks!

@nckeong88 ,

Generally, there is advantage using tri-band routers for wireless backhaul. But do remember, Wi-Fi traffic is not just 1 way direction. Getting the triband ROG GT-AX11000 improves the downstream but your node will still be dual band for the upstream direction. is the Linksys Velop AC2200 not running well for you right now ?

the Velop still works. just that it's WiFi 5 plus the way it's deployed isn't most efficient. The main node is sitting next to my AX88u and broadcasting together.

I always get new equipment when recontracting; Velop was 4 years ago and 88u 2 years ago.

AX88U is already a pretty good router, however the main problem i see here is mixing different brands of routers

my suggestion would be to replace the Linksys Velop with Asus ones instead, and then you can consolidate into the AiMesh system

the Asus Zenwifi XD6 can be seen selling pretty cheap on carousell
