Advice on Dynamic Range

Can someone advise me on what this test is about and how to understand it?

dynamic range is a kind of ratio between smallest and largest numbers of a property (say light or sound) which usually can be measured.

for light, it is about the intensity of black and white with grey in between.
for this test, it is to check the sensor what is the maximum (white) and minimum (black) the sensor can display without losing details (data).

the difference is the dynamic range.
