Advice on education pathway

Hi, so last year I graduated from poly with gpa of 1.9 in IT.
Due to my low gpa, i was rejected from the unis that i applied.
What choice do i have? I know 1 of it is to take A level as a private candidate...

I did it after being 10 years away from school and an o level cert with only 4 passes but yes, the journey itself is difficult.

I have to ask ts what the hell happened? Graduating with a gpa of 1.9 is atrocious no sugar coating it. You need to provide more details before i can advise you

just yoloed in poly... didn't study until the day before the exams lol, no idea how i made it through too...

Well, it's still atrocious of a GPA and yeah, you can do your A levels privately but with that kind of attitude, I suggest don't bother.

A levels require discipline and if you're starting from scratch, you can't do it one year. You need at least 16-24 months to prepare. It's also not cheap at all so if you do choose this route, you will need to ensure you are disciplined enough to be able to do so because if you YOLO like you did, forget it and save your money.

Only other options at this point is private degree or working.

Only 4 passes can take A levels? Most of them with only 4 passes will struggle to enter poly courses, let alone proceed to JC/MI to do A level. But your case so special can qualify to do A level after 10 years.

Anyone can do A level. There's no special requirement to be honest.

As long as you sign up, pay the fees can do A level liao.

The only restriction is the student has to be 17 as at 1st January in the year of the A level paper so doesn't matter how smart you are, to do Singapore A levels, you need to fulfill this age requirement.

Honestly, if you do A levels, your O level cert can throw into the rubbish bin unless it's for a subject you didn't do at A levels.

Poly diploma though still need to present their O level results and it makes up a portion of the entry into university.

Maybe he don't want because of EDMW sunday threads

but at this point, only a private university is going to take him in.

No way is NUS/NTU/SMU/SIT/SUTD is going to take in a 1.9 GPA when people with 3.6 are getting rejected.

The old unisim is now SUSS. That's a local university now.

SIM-GE is another branch of SIM and is a private university.

i restarted from scratch and did mine in 8 months, got CCC for my h2s, so a year is possible if you are looking for straight Cs

Did you have any prior background? I wouldn't advise that route especially for someone who did badly in poly. Better to take a bit longer especially if totally no foundation.

Even straight C's these days don't assure one of a place in a local university even for the "dumping ground" courses.

erm, this year's grades are worse than last year. IGP wise this year should be lower than last year a level grade profile. dumping ground courses requires O level physics minimum so yea, for some without physics it is an issue.

Sorry, we don't know the IGP yet for this year. Hard to tell. Guy with 3.5+ and meets last year's IGP for comp engineering and his diploma was in comp engineering got rejected so the IGP is not the best gauge.

If TS or anyone intends to do A levels privately, better to take a bit longer time if you totally have no foundation. This is not the case if it's a retake candidate who has studied the content.
