Hi,

I am going to start work in a few months time and intend to get better insurance coverage for myself.

Some details about me: -Going 24 this year and Non-Smoker
-Budget will be about 150/mth

Right now I have an old hospitalisation plan under AIA but Im looking to upgrade to a new plan that comes with the 'as charged' scheme considering that medical fees will mostly likely increase in the future. However my concern is that since I did a minimal invasive surgery for slipped disc back in 2010, I might have to stay with AIA. Alternatively, I could try to apply for GE and see how the underwriting turns out since GE is cheaper.

I am also looking at term/life insurance + CI(standalone/rider) coverage at this point in time. Disability income would probably be next.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! TIA

It would be better for you to stick with AIA and upgrade it to "as charged". Your slip disc will still be covered under the old plan even if the new upgraded plan does not cover it. If you switched out to GE, you have nothing to fall back on if the GE plan exclude your slip disc condition.

Apply for 'as charged' to a few insurers and see which offers the best terms for you. A bit more work, but may be more worth while for you.

Its because AIA seems to be more expensive if I were to downgrade to A or B ward in the future.

Anyways I just met up with someone from GE today and she recommended me to get critical care advantage 1st and then try to apply for hospitalisation. Her rationale is if I apply for hospitalisation 1st and I got excluded for slipped disc, it will affect my future coverage if I were to apply for CI etc.

For a coverage of 200k under Critical Care advantage, the premium is abt $103/mth for 31 years

For a coverage of 200k, the premium is abt $139/mth for 40years.

Oh and I heard from her that insurance prices are increasing this year around July. Anyone can confirm?

Any views on this? TIA =)

Hi ! Do note that all previous AIA shield plans will be merged and streamlined into their current Gold Max A, B and C, which would make your coverage as charged.

E.g. My dad's case, he was previously on AIA Healthshield Gold Plan A, and upon the renewal, he would be offered to be upgraded to the Gold Max B plan without further underwriting.

Therefore, I would encourage you to stick to the current AIA plan, in view of complications in the coverage due to pre-existing, etc.

For the recommendations for the insurance coverage wise, if you'd like another opinion, do PM me so I can let you know more.

Based on your profile.

I will suggest either u stick to AIA and try upgrade with declaration on your new condition and history .

OR

Attempt to apply with other shields with full declaration to see the acceptance or exclusion if any. Most should exclude or reject however.

U can look into limited whole life plans from Aviva Mylifechoice for a limited premium term.
Or ILP wholelife protection with higher sum assured due to investment nature.
Or simply plain vanilla term plans

Let me know if u need any quotes from zurich or aviva.

NTUC seems the cheapest but how does other companies plans compare? Which plan would be best when it comes to out-patient claims as well? Out-patient fess can be huge when it comes to MRI screening, visits, prescribed medicines etc.
