I won't get anything else besides Paperwhite. It really depends what you want though...

If you want to get the best bang for buck, I'm sure the Kindle 5 will suffice. Specs wise, both are the same because to be honest, when batt life lasts up to a month and more, they don't make a difference anymore, whether 1 or 2 months.

But after my Kindle 5 broke and I got the Paperwhite, it is an awesome experience. Being able to read on my bed at night with the lights off. Read until tired can go straight to sleep. With the Kindle 5, still need to get out of bed and switch off the lights.

It's simple conveniences like these that makes the Paperwhite worth getting.

For me, the best part abour paperwhite is the touchscreen. I really hated the navigation using the direction pad on my old kindle and dx, after getting used to paperwhite. It's clumsy and slow.

Helo Jeff. Whats the reason for getting paperwhite?

The touch screen (one-touch dictionary, one-touch bookmark), and the light. I don't really like the buttons on the current basic Kindle, feel that the older Kindle Keyboard's one is much better.

Me used a kindle keyboard, kindle touch, kindle paperwhite both gen and kindle 5th gen.

My favorite is the keyboard and gen 5 because of the page button.

It's bit difficult to read in a pack train with the touch screen while standing and I seldom highlight and take note. Page button is convenience.

I have kindle fire tablet too. That's why I can survive with 5th gen. Kindle fire read at night at home and gen 5th go out with me on trip

Ultimately it's the combination u have and the purpose the device serve in your lifestyle.

First 2 pics are my own pictures. Bought 2 to hit min shipping quota, happily using 1 alr :D

Comes with 8.9" IPS display at HD(1080p). Very good for gaming, movies and reading. Text is sharp and clear for reading too, of cos as Kindle is famous for their reading devices. You can see the picture above with regards to the screen capability.

The screen just looks awesome on it! Speaker capability is very good and clear, very good media device(eg to watch movie/video and gaming).

Amazon OS is v smooth and optimized on the Fire HD. Comes with 1gb ram and 16gb storage. And of cos excellent Amazon customer support. Also comes with 1 year warranty(left 11 months as I bought it last month, it has been in my storage since then).

Got a spare one lying around, waiting for a good owner to utilize this bang for buck tablet.

My recommendation is not to get a screen protector; it's just not necessary and affects readability. You should get a cover that surrounds the chassis though; the screen is pretty fragile if dropped.
