My current 7.5 years CPU is coming to an end, cannot start up with checksum error. It was a DIY unit. Am out of sync with DIY scene, hence need advice from experts here. My current setup are Intel Core 2 Duo E8500, Gigabyte EP45-UD3, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti, Kingston VRM PC2-6400 DDR2-800 2Gb X 2, 2 SSD and 1 HDD, Creative X-Fi ExtremeMusic, LG DVD RW, Corsair 600W PSU.

My requirements:
1) Am interested in small form PC.
2) Not into much gaming, probably Football manager etc.
3) Can support 2 monitors
4) Can support my existing 2 SSD and 1 HDD
5) Win7 base
6) Best can reuse my current components like the PSU, soundcard, graphics card, LG DVD if possible.

Thanks!

Could be a corrupted BIOS. You can try replacing the CMOS battery, change all the BIOS settings to default and see if that resolves the problem.

Edit: as for a replacement PC, do specify a budget for other HWZers to recommend parts

Have changed out the battery, doesnt work.:s22:

The symptoms started about two years back, so that time change the battery can work, now cant. Probably also time to upgrade since already 7.5 years.

Budget wise not an issue, more for my needs. Dun need for gaming. FM can even run on my 2011 Sony Z viao currently. Need the PC for trading, support two monitors. Probably 8GB ram, mid range intel based CPU.

im using h100i gtx for my cpu cooler, quite good, getting 30degrees to 40 max even when on high load. psu 7 years old alrdy u might wanna change, but if not continue using it. just fyi if u want to get the spec m2, the cooler im using is not that easy to install and the cooler tube is quite rigid so its like pressing against the side panels when i close it. also u must buy extra fans coz the case only comes with 1 fan:s13::s13:

if u need windows 7 oem u can try bukit timah.. can upgrade to windows 10 somemore:s13::s13::s13::s13: tested and proven

you dont need a cpu cooler unless you are going to overclock or going for aesthetic, just use the stock cooler first
windows can get from either reddit, around 15-30 USD or qoo10 around $40-50 after coupon on Qoo10

SSD, HDD, sound card, DVD RW, PSU and GPU can reuse, so you just need to get the following
1) MB +CPU
2) Ram
3) Case

You can reuse your GPU, SSDs, HDDs, ODD and PSU.

CASE: Silverstone Sugo SG11 @ $109
One of the smaller mATX offering to fit a 5.25" ODD at 22 litres.

Total: $400

Optional:
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Product Key [OEM] @ $30 (Reddit)
Upgrade for free to Windows 10.

Hi, for the casing, I am also looking at CM elite 130. The reason for your choice of SG11 is it because it has extra slots behind for my soundcard mounting?

How about CM 120?

Thanks

For mATX casing, am looking for a slimmer version (smaller width) for my table, so silverstone SG13 probably out.

Anyone using CM silencio 352? good?

Hi Moneyface, the MB you recommend, MSI H81M-E35, I checked that it has a USB3 header which means I can connect to the front of the case right?

My previous board is gigabyte which has served me with distinction, hence will like to use the brand again, but their H81M-SP2V doesnt have the USB 3 header means I cannot use the front USB ports on the case right?

TIA

As I might need more than 4 SATA ports, I have narrowed down my MB to the following, besides the recommended MSI H81M-E35:

Combo with 4160
ASROCK B85M-PRO4 $281 PC Themes
ASUS B85M-G $284 Fuwell
GIGABYTE B85M-D3H-A $301 PC Themes

Which of the above is better?

I read some old forum thread that ASROCK has better LAN chipset, as well now ASROCK is slightly cheaper than the rest

Thanks
