As always, it's down to preference and usage pattern. You won't get a definite answer.

In my opinion, it comes down to this: If you value large screen with stylus input and long battery life over other things (like camera quality, infrared, etc.), go with the Note II. Otherwise, go with the S4.

Best is you go down to a shop which display both sets side by side so you can do a comparison. Read the various online reviews then decide.

For me, I choose the S4 over the Note 2 cause I find that S4 is much easier to use with 1 hand and the screen is really very good.

Personal opinion...

Note 2 has
- Larger battery capacity
- Bigger screen (Subjective)
- S-Pen functionality (usefulness depends on individual)
- Significantly cheaper

S4 has
- Newer version of android/samsung touchwiz, hence more features (usefulness depends on individual, Note 2 will get it eventually)
- Higher resolution display
- More powerful processor (irrelevant in day to day usage)
- Higher megapixel camera

That being said, this does not mean that Note 2's software is inadequate, or processor is slow and sluggish, nor does it say that the S4 battery life is bad. The unmentioned qualities are more of expected average while the highlighted ones are the main advantage one has over the other.

unless you feel size is an issue, i seem to hear more complaints about s4 than note 2.

personally, i prefer note 2 too.

some of my additional comments in bold embedded within Ratix0's.

Personal opinion...

Note 2 has
- Larger battery capacity.........and it seems that Note 2 somehow has extremely good battery life, better than the usual samsung phones. no idea why though.

- Bigger screen (Subjective).......also, note 2 bezel and sides seem to curve better to fit the palms as compared to the relatively sharp edges of s4 which is similar to iphone 5 (oops)

- S-Pen functionality (usefulness depends on individual) .... might be very useful for ppl who take notes and conference call at the same time.

- Significantly cheaper

S4 has
- Newer version of android/samsung touchwiz, hence more features (usefulness depends on individual, Note 2 will get it eventually) .... many of us find the new features gimmicky. I do too, except for maybe the 'finger' air view instead of using a stylus for preview, the more camera features (e.g. eraser) and smart pause. There is also a new layout for the camera features but i prefer the older, traditional layout of Note 2.

- Higher resolution display ........ quite impossible to discern the difference for most of us unless you very very intentionally zoom in, as both screens have high ppi. I cannot really rmb but i think note 2 has a better arrangement of pixels.

- More powerful processor (irrelevant in day to day usage) ... in fact, note 2 seems to have less lag, possibly due to better optimization and older version of touchwiz.

- Higher megapixel camera....

That being said, this does not mean that Note 2's software is inadequate, or processor is slow and sluggish, nor does it say that the S4 battery life is bad. The unmentioned qualities are more of expected average while the highlighted ones are the main advantage one has over the other.

I dont think this is true - "Bigger screen (subjective)".

Note 2 screen is objectively, visually, scientifically and mathematically bigger. Hahaha how can the screen size be subjective? :p

He stated big screen as a plus point, his plus point for big screen for him as a video lover might be a minus point for me who don't carry bags around n want something that sits in my puny pockets with me sitting down comfortably n without the phone bulging.

Hence, it could subjectively be a good or bad point for giant screen size phone.

Yeah makes sense. I'm just referring to the fact that the screen is bigger on Note 2 is objectively factual. But yea like you said, he's probably referring to the big screen being a plus point as subjective. Haha i have a love hate relationship with my note 2 screen size.
