My current PC is about 3 years old and am thinking of upgrading the CPU for better game performance.

Current Spec:
Ryzen 3600 c/w CM Hyper 212X cooler & B450 MB
650W PSU
RTX 3070 GPU
NR400 Case

Playing games such as Warzone, Far Cry & Total War.

Will I see a significant improvement by upgrading the CPU to Ryzen 5700X? If yes, will the Hyper 212 cooler be sufficient? TIA

1) Upgrade CPU
*You will need to update BIOS to support new CPU for the B450 motherboard
2) What RAM are you using?
There are AMD Ryzen optimized RAM kits like Gskill Trident Z NEO.

Don't think you need to upgrade the cooler.

If you are gaming at 4K, there is negligible difference. I am using 3600x and see no need to upgrade my CPU for the time being.

Maybe instead of CPU upgrade you can consider upgrading something else with the money? Like a new pair of decent desktop speakers?

No significant improvement. E.g Total war, maybe gain about 5 fps from 65 fps to 70 fps so around 7.5% gain...Unless you are happy with only 5 fps gain.

A complete overhaul to upcoming ryzen 7600x or so , mobo, , cooler, ram and maybe ssd, maybe 12 fps gain or 18%. Show me the money.

If you upgrade to 5800x or x3d, mainly it will help with the frame drop or stutter, thus smoother gameplay, won't really see a huge boost in average fps with 3070.

This is my experience upgrading from 3700x to 12700 with 3060ti. Games where it's going to be bottleneck by gpu remains the same and have to lower the game setting.

most AAA games are very gpu bound. upgrading cpu matters more for older games that are usually heavily single threaded like factorio, modded minecraft, dota, wow, ksp kind of games.
esp if u playing on 1440p or 4k

Don't think you need to upgrade the cooler.
Current RAM is 2 x 8GB DDR4 3200

Quite a big price difference between 5800x and 5800x3D. Was originally thinking of 5800X but worried my NR400 will have issue cooling such a hot CPU

I have impression not many gamer will monitor the GPU + CPU correlation and 1% low performance.

My experience on 3000 GPU was if undervolting done right it can help to push GPU usage above 90% if cpu not bottleneck factor, and I am quite sure zen 2 cpu definitely not the bottleneck factor for sure.

90% only to me is bottleneck already :ROFLMAO:

1080p easy for CPU to bottleneck, higher res then less

3060TI and onward doesn't seem like an option not to undervolt, easily thermal throttle if u drive it 98-100% or a prolonged period.

Got money then upgrade lor, no money just suck thumb

If you use 10 series card on ryzen 5000, the usage is 98-100% in 1080p

For R5 3600 with 3070 in the past, i think soso only, not really getting the most out of the 3070.

Plus CPU demanding titles will devour the 3600 anytime.
