Yes tried most of them alr. Either over budget or need to get two rooms which we would prefer not to. Haiz..

You'll need a triple room which is going to be bigger (definitely more expensive) or a double room with an extra bed (extra cost). What's more it's going to be in December (super-peak period).

Can consider those mentioned in my earlier post:
forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/95950942-post1355.html

Contact them direct and also compare the prices on OTA sites.

I think the family rooms would work for you, rather than connecting rooms.

Take note Glow Penang's so-called connecting rooms are not the normal connecting type.

Hi guys will be going to penang in December with my parents. Air tickets are alr booked so no problem but the problem now is the hotel. Tried looking for hotels near Georgetown near those good food like sunway hotel but total price came up to $800+ for 3nights total! Any other suggestions for hotels around that location with 3 adults in a room for 3 nights under $650 total? Thanks alot.

Can help recommend any tour guides or package for penang?
Went to tour agency but their price quite high and have to choose their choice of hotel, so don't really prefer that.

Thanks all for the help. Managed to book the last available family triple room from glow hotel. Heard the location is pretty good, can't wait to explore it!

Hi all,

I am back from Penang! It was drizzling all afternoon when I was there in late Nov. I booked my tour with Andrew, 7 seater car with 2 way airport transfer & 1 day tour (I name where I want to go). But on the way back, we wanted to tried bak kut teh so got to paid extra 30RM for the extra 1hour. So those who's going to booked with him got to take note ya....

Penang is jam everywhere. From airport to our resort at Golden Sands took 1.5hr. It was quite a nice place to go but probably the next round I would just stay at the resort than heading out to explore. The resort itself can occupy the kids. The tour guide is good, a nice english spoken uncle who brought us around if not we will be lost in the Art street. And I was expecting to see my name on a piece of paper when I was picked at the airport but Andrew could recognize me thru my whatsapp picture :s13: We also went to Ghee Hiang to get Tar Sau Piah, I love their biscuit with the thick gula melaka sugar.

I regretted going to Penang Hill! I got 2 kids so I thought to let them tried the tram. The queue was mad crowded, there is nobody there to jaga the queue and there is a sign board stated 'No Q Require'!. So guess what? When the tram comes, all start to push their way in. And on the way back, we Q for 1hr 45min to get down the hill. Tour guide told us it is due to weekends and school holiday. :s22:

Tourist pay 30 RM for adult. If you want to skip the queue, you can pay 60RM for fast lane.

Fast lane means you can board the next available train. They allow fast lane ticket holder to board train first and then the standard ticket holder. Fast lane ticket holder can choose to sit anywhere they want.

You will save waiting time taking fast lane going up hill and coming down hill.

Though fast lane ticket is double the price of standard ticket, it is worth it. No need to wait and sure have seat in tram going up and coming down penang hill

Just to share. I have been travelling around Penang using MyTeksi application. The driver who accept the booking have to use the meter. After reaching your destination, you pay driver according to the meter reading. MyTeksi app will email you the e-receipt.

The app is very user friendly. You can see where is the taxi and how long more it takes the taxi to arrive. You can even see who is the driver and the taxi number. Some prefer uber and i have read reviews that uber is also good for taking taxi in Penang.

If you try to flag the taxi or go to taxi standard, the driver will quote a price. The price is usually more expensive than meter one. The taxi driver on the road will not use meter.

There are traffic jam on the road. Has asked driver who said that peak hour is "7am to 9am" and "5pm to 7pm". Avoid these travelling times especially going to airport for departure.

Have tried taking Rapid Penang bus. They have unlimited rapid bus rides for 7 days for tourist @ 30 RM. Good if you want to explore Penang or take airport transfer via Penang Rapidbus

There are a free shuttle bus that bring you to Penang Street Art and Penang attractions in Georgetown. The bus makes many stops. see this link http://www.penang-traveltips.com/cat.htm for bus route and details. It is totally free for tourist.

Malaysia school holiday is like Singapore. Shall not go place that requires to queue on Sat and Sun.. Eg. Penang Hill.

For those with big family going to Penang, you may want to try airbnb. Staying in airbnb near Komtar terminal will be better. Go for those airbnb host with many good reviews...

Staying in airbnb @ Penang Time Squares even better. 5mins walk to
a) Famous New Lane Hawker Centre
b) Komtar bus terminal that bring you almost everywhere in Penang
c) Gama supermarket
d) 1st Avenue Shopping Malls and nearby shopping malls
e) The food gallery at level 2 of Penang Time Squares (have lunch and dinner most of the time during my stay in Penang. No need to worry where to eat when it rains heavily. The food court is below condo)

Airport transfer from Penang Airport to Komtar Terminal is ard 30 mins max..

Is horse riding at Batu Ferringhi still near Bayview Beach Resort?
The only info I could find about the exact location is from a 2011 article. I didnt see horses nor stables when i was near Golden Sands that part.

Where in Batu Ferringhi are the jetskis?

Also where do I get Rapid pass for tourist other than the small hut at Komtar? I didnt see a place I could get that at airport...

Going Penang with my wife on Xmas week for 3D2N before proceeding to Ipoh.
Thinking to get a local sim card to use MyTeksi app as we will not be driving.
We will be arriving at Sungai Nibong Bus Terminal and staying at Hotel Jen.
Anywhere that we can get local sim card along the way?

Staying at Hotel Jen puts you very very very near Komtar and the other 3 connecting malls (2 newer malls...the other 2 cam skip).
Good hotel and very good location.

In one of the malls, should be able to get. Check with the hotel staff.
