advice on replacement for CPU,RAM,MB

Was using 4770k +MAXIMUS VI IMPACT + 2x8G of ram.

Recently after move house, something went wrong on mb io.
whole mb io is undetectable.

highly suspect mb issues, add on rig never shutdown for 2 years

think is time to replaced mb,cpu, ram
(pc until today still can boot to window login screen)
-verified, dp port, hdmi port, all usb port is unable to connect to any device

now looking at
i7 8700k, Lazada 479
asus z370 maximus i- 409 (10% shop coupon)-qoo10
asrock z370 gaming itx- 299 sls

G.Skill Trident Z RGB F4-3000C16D-16GTZR 16GB (2x 8GB) DDR4 3000MHz CL16 Dual Channel @ $320 - t258jgn

found that limited option for itx mb n the price is as exp as a good atx/matx board

should i consider to chg to diff form factor ?

had extra empty lian li case n secondary system, sth10 at parent's place


***system was on water cool, but these two years was running air cool, due to some leakage issues, n no time to fix

will be water cool for 8700k

next phase of upgrade will be nvme ssd n gpu

In short:
ASUS: 6x20A powerstages, 1 additional M.2 NVMe, has a EK monoblock from Z270i, realtek 2x2 WLAN/BT. More RGB-ish.

ASRock: Much better VRMs (5x 60A powerstages), 2 lane thunderbolt 3.0/ USB-C PD Charging, Intel AC8260 2x2 WLAN/BT .

Both have RGB headers. But asus's version is more stylized. Had both in mind but strix-i leaning till I learnt more about the VRM quality on OCN.

The ASUS has reported VRM throttle points anywhere from 150-180W (probably case and airflow), but very few outliers of doing ~210W transient loads (throttle points from owner comments on OCN). Might be abit of a stretch since a far larger strix-f/e has some reported VRM shutdown issues ~200W CPU package power. I've personally done close to 300W on transient loads on XTU, no shutdowns with the asrock. Something to note if there's an overclocking intent.

Didnt oc for 4770k much , as, once reservoir had leakage, second, mb rma
So air cool for 2 years, (busy with study)

Might need to read more n learn oc for new gen

Back then no mb support rgb controller, i am using aq6 for rgb controlling.
New gen mb is great.
Want to hoot some rgb fan for fun also.

I came from VIII Impact, yup it's unfortunate the impact line was dropped. It would have been nice if they kept the last Z170 design, add dual m2 and moved on to the current more neutral than gamer red theming.

Outside of BIOS flashback and the abundance of beta BIOSes only for the true ROG boards, got over with the rest of the features. The thermistor cable would have been pretty cool to shove under a GPU block or so.

Z370 doesn't have high end mATXes (Gene, mocf type)/ITXes except for some very good mid range boards. So you'll undoubtedly lose some bells and whistles if you really used everything in the box.

Different ways to skin a cat though (not pusheen cat ).

Without splitting hairs, the 256 bit wide vector units when used consumes a lot more power compared to the 128 bit wide vector units on Zen. But it has about double the performance of Zen+/Zen1 core when used. The stilt's Hevc decoding bench (cobra) is an example. Testing a 4 core 7700K against 8 core 1800X or even something like HWBot X265.

Zen 2 will be interesting. If AMD doubles down on this front, does small increments in other areas, clock speeds and maintain 8 cores there's a lot to gain.

Think I mentioned somewhere, highs (power) are higher, lows are lower than kabylake. Overclocked with speedshift you're still web browsing at ~5-20 watts or so. On a full tilt like AVX2 handbrake or other up to date transcoder, 150W+ isn't shocking.

You could always buy a nuc first, use it for a bit, then build your new system when the cpu come out...

The Z97 boards there are grossly overpriced. The cheapest one there is S$285. I think you meant TB instead.
