Hi guys

I am intending to get a new speaker, the logitech Z623 for my pc. Does getting a sound card improves the quality of the sound produces? If it does I'm intending to get the ASUS Xonar DX sound card. Pls advice as im new to the this. If possible maybe other recommendations to get better sound. Normally used to watch tv shows, movies and play games. thanks

i rather u get swans m50w then logitech z623 for a more balanced sound signature then just boomy muddy bass.

a good sound card improves the quality of the sound. If you can increase your budget, u can try the asus xonar essence stx or a xonar dx like what you mentioned.

If can stretch even further, the ifi idac is a good choice too

To buy or not to buy a sound card will depends on how much can your ear hear? If you cant hear any difference then best is just use onboard sound. Ask yourself this question and see what you need in a soundcard.

Best is just buy any speakers you want and try onboard first.

Get a better set of speakers first, then only consider getting internal sound card/external DAC

Im on a budget of about $300 and more into bass and surround sound. Is the logitech Z506 5.1 good? And for the sound card does it really make a difference if i get a budgeted one preferably the Xonar DX. Or having the speaker with onboard mobo sound card good enough?

If you wanna go for 5.1 you better have stands for your surrounds. If there is no stands for it then there is no point for it to put it all straight in front of you.

Im not very good in 5.1 surround recommendations for multimedia speakers. Cause i personally dont really like any of the sounds they produced.

Im using a Onkyo receiver instead with a 5.1 speaker setup.

True.. Looks like i have to stick to a 2.1, my room doesnt have space to accomodate stands. May i know what does a receiver do?

Receiver is an All in One solution for most multimedia needs.

It is aka AV receiver. It is also an amp by itself.

Uses of a Receiver
- Able to multiconnect all devices and output it to a single display and produce sound thru speakers.

Example: PS3/PS4/PC/Bluray player/USB Thumbdrive/HDMI devices

- Able to upscale any kind of resolutions from 720p all the way to 4k resolutions. But take note its not the real resolution you are seeing.

- Able to set up either 5.1/7.1/9.1/9.2 speaker config

- Able to decode all kinds of signal produced from source

- Able to adjust every speaker's, tone, bass, treble

- Able to adjust speaker distance and also equlizers

And the list goes on.

I backed this recommendation. Other speakers would be audioengine a2, m-audio M20, rokit 5 and yamaha HS50M. All are within your budget or slightly above your budget with a xonar dx. These are 2.0 reference speakers.

However, your content (big difference between compressed audio and lossless btw) matters the most. After buying these speakers, look for a friend that has a DAC/USB audio interface and compare them between your onboard sound. If you find the difference substantial, by all means invest in one.

Been searching for speakers all these time and didn't come across all these, being logitech popping out the most. I will check it out, do you know where to get all these in singapore? Or shops that have a demo set?

Audioengine - Adelphi CD acoustics
M-audio - sinamex, peace centre
Yamaha - hung bros, Luther music.
Rokkit - swee lee.

Except for yamaha, the rest of them has demo units for you to test. Happy hunting :)

Not sure on xonar dx, but it a decent card,
Best is have a pair of good speaker , test it out ,then see if u wan to buy a soundcard

Btw it wont be out of stock

DX/STX is the minimum I'd recommend. For external DAC you can look for ODAC or Fiio Alphen e17 even.
