hi guys,
will be going to japan on 17 march - 25

during those times we will be traveling to NARITA to KYOTO

then go osaka, then maybe visit nara if time permits. then back narita.

Alot of advices is to get a JRPASS.

Is there a cheap alternative way aside from getting JRPASS?

inputs will be greatly appreciated

cheapest is probably by overnight bus.
and save u a night of accommodation as well.

budget domestic flight such as Peach airline can be very cheap also when there is promotions. but need to factor in the cost of transportation to and from airport, and also the time and hassle of getting to the airport and checking in.

If JRP , use it to go 1 day trip to Hiroshima for better 'value'.

definitely JRP. I did Tokyo and Kyoto in Dec too. While most of the time was spent in Tokyo, the JRP can be used for certain lines in Tokyo too.

Not to mention shinkansen is the fastest route.

Another possible one is the train package from Japanican. It's here:
http://www.japanican.com/en/tour/detail/VJOPENTK1/

You can make use of all trains including Nozomi, but the flip side is there's no choice for reserved seating. If you use that package you can make use of the train from Kyoto to Osaka at 560 yen if memory serves. But if you plan on visiting other places like Hiroshima, go with the JRP.
