Hi

I need advice on upgrading my current system:

CPU: AMD A8 7600
MB: Asrock a88 itx
RAM: 2 X 4gb Gskill 2133mhz
GPU: Sapphire R9 380 itx 2gb
CASING: Silverstone Raven RVZ01

I gotten the A8 7600 as an entry level system and game abit on dota2 but later when the MGSV TPP came out, I added the R9 380.

However I feel like my CPU is bottlenecking the system as I watched even the potato masher from casual shenanigans can get a constant 60fps, while I feel my system should be more powerful, but can only get 40-50fps with the same settings.

http://casualshenanigans.com/2015/09/22/metal-gear-solid-v-the-phantom-pain/

If I were to have a constant 60fps for MGSV, should I try upgrading to an Athlon 860x or should I just upgrade to an i3 6100 system for abit of future proofing?

Or should I just wait out till Zen and the new Intel architecture?

Thanks in advance!

Hmm...for my budget of about 300-400 I think I can only go for i3 6100 at best. Cause I want a mini itx mb.

Try stretching a little further and get i5 6400 with H110 mITX, just slightly over $400

Add: But DDR3 Skylake may be starting to be hard to find

Rather he finds 2nd hand Haswell Core i5 combo around $200 to tide over...

Can reuse all his remaing parts some more...

The A8 7600 has a lot more processing power compared to the i5 750

Maybe it's because of the overclock or something.

Not so true though...

You can only compare a purportedly better A10 to Nehalem Core i5.

Thanks for the update. For me I'm also looking for abit of future proofing that's why I want to go Skylake. Thats why I'm not that keen for second hand older architecture.

I can probably make my current A8 7600 into another PC at home for HTPC purpose etc. Since it doesn't need a GPU.

But just curious why the casual shenanigans potato masher is so powerful since it should be a weaker system.

Second hand, older 2yo (going to 3) architecture but still gold..

Oh dear. Typically with an architecture update we see a bigger increase in performance than 2.7% IPC.* Looking at matters purely from this perspective, Skylake does not come out well. These results suggest that Skylake is merely another minor upgrade in the performance metrics, and that a clock for clock result compared to Broadwell is not favorable. However, consider that very few people actually invested in Broadwell. If anything, Haswell was the last major mainstream processor generation that people actually purchased, which means that:

Haswell to Skylake (DDR3): Average ~5.7% Up.

This is more of a bearable increase, and it takes advantage of the fact that Broadwell on the desktop was a niche focused launch. The other results in the review will be interesting to see.

APU in the first place is meant for low cost system for
normal usage and light gaming not really gaming.
If you want future proofing going for at least Intel i5 system.
Depending on your budget, you can either go for second hand
or first hand.

AMD Zen will only launch next year but your current mobo is not
compatible as it runs on AM4 socket which means need to change.

Hmm probably just benchies then

My sister is running an A10-5700 with an Asus MARS 760 (2 x GTX 760), wonder how much bottleneck there is. :s13:

Still it runs games fine...... it'll last her till Zen comes along so TS, think you should be fine... the A10-5700 is pretty darn similar to your A8 7600.

Thanks for the info. It just feels that my CPU is really bottlenecking my graphics card especially when I watched the casual shenanigans potato masher perform much better in MGSV compared to my system.

Maybe it's time to switch to intel.
