Hey Guys,

i will be travelling to the US (LA) for 4 months from July-October for a vacation and also to do some visiting. I understand that the VWP only allows stays for up to 3 months. just wondering if i can fly back to Singapore for about a week in between and fly back to LA again to reset the VWP for another 3 months. does it work that way?

any experts care to share your experience? =)

Why dont you just go over to Canada (instead of SG)? It's more cost and time efficient!

Please see http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/visit/visa-waiver-program.html

Trips to Canada, Mexico, or nearby Islands
If you are admitted to the United States under the VWP, you may take a short trip to Canada, Mexico, or a nearby island and generally be readmitted to the United States under the VWP for the remainder of the original 90 days granted upon your initial arrival in the United States. Therefore, the length of time of your total stay, including the short trip, must be 90 days or less. See the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) website.

Going to Canada or Mexico does not reset your 90 days limit. It merely pauses the 90 days while you are not in the US, then resumes when you re-enter.

Go get a tourist visa from the US Embassy for 4 months or so. Visa will be cheaper than air tickets back to SG unless you are a mileage junkie.

VWP also doesn't mean you are guaranteed to be allowed into US. You can be declined at the immigrations checkpoint (which will permanently remove you from VWP) if they think you are abusing the system, which will most likely happen if you fly back within such a short period of time.

Get a B2 visa from US Embassy, show proof of confirmed itineraries to CBP officer when you arrived in US and ask for min 4 months stay, you may be granted a max 6 mths stays based on the CBP officer's discretion.
