[Advice Please] A NAS for a beginner

Looking for options as a n00b to NAS.

TV is on wired connection to home network, it will be possible to watch movies and TV series from files stored in the NAS yes?

Other than that, it’s just going to be a central storage for the computers and laptops in the home, don’t really expect to use any advanced functions.

What would be a good NAS for this purpose?

You can look at common brands like Synology Qnap Asustor
If your files are 4K high bitrate HEVC, make sure you choose one that has hardware decoding for HEVC

For beginners. You will not go wrong with off-the-shelf NAS like Synology's 2-4 disks option. Try to go with NASes with x86-64 CPUs. Avoid QNAP. When you are more well versed in networking and storage, then try the DIY route. But it is not for everyone.

Recommend to read up more on UPNP before turning it on. Understand the security risks and make informed decisions before you do so.​
