Hi bros there, kindly advice a rig for poly student which my friend going to get for his daughter. Budget is $1000 but no need OS, speaker, ssd and WiFi adapter. I have come out with follow list that recommend from other thread.

1) asrock h81m dgs+i3-4130 - $216
2) Seagate 1tb sata HDD - $74
3) adata ddr3 1600mhz 4g - $45
4) CM 311+fsp hexa 500w 80+ - $105
5) Dell S2340L 23" monitor - $209 (IT show)
6) Asus dvdrw drive - $30
7) Logitech kb and mouse KM120 - $18

Budget still enough to get a gpu but if the Intel graphic HD 4400 is good enough for normal use for poly student, l guess will save it or buy next time. Please advice whether to get a gpu? The casing also subject to change as not sure whether his daughter will like it or not so also need other recommendation. Thank you.

But yes, an ultrabook would be good. I'm using the Asus UX32VD and swapped the HDD with a Samsung 840 250GB and bought an external HDD case and voila, external HDD. The laptop going for $1398 but definitely can bargain cheaper since I got mine at $12xx at noral outlets. Can try looking at other brands too.

This desktop that you are getting is not much more powerful than a ultrabook with an i5-4200u/i7 4500u. Dont waste your money

i dun see the reason to build a desktop when u can just buy a laptop
the specs u want to build aint great and can be found on a laptop

laptop also allows her to bring it to school if required

No need to get i3. Pentium good enough liao

Anyway TS, have you considered getting a branded pc?

You might save some money from diy but the warranty helps to save some hassle when the pc need servicing,

It really depends on whether she'll be doing media editing. If she's not in media studies there's no need to pump money for a GPU, unless anyone in the family plays games, in which case get a Palit/Zotac GTX 750 Ti (should be $~220).

Oh, and get an i5 3350p (or 3450/3470) instead, with a B75 mobo. It should require about ~$100+ more, but the PC will be easily fast enough for a few more years before needing an upgrade.

OT: Mynextcom is selling Zotax GTX750 Ti for $207 if u go down and pay in cash.

Not consider branded pc though it provide better service. Diy alway can get better parts within the same budget. Anyway I able to troubleshoot for him if needed.

She taking areospace course. I think temporary no need gpu, just upgrade next time if needed. For i5-3350p( ivy-bridge)+asrock B75M-DGS ($271)and i5-4330+asrock H81M-DGS ($289) which is the latest Haswell, which one better? I thought should get the latest one?

Imo just get the lenovo y410p from your school. Plenty powerful. RP and NP already can order online.
