ADVICE: Upgrade RAM

Hi guys, pls pardon my noobness in this area.. i want to upgrade my RAM. But how to check which RAM should I buy?

I'm using dual ddr2 sdram, motherboard is Acer E946GZ.. still got anymore info that i need to know to buy so that the new RAM can fit into my desktop CPU?

DDR2 is last generation memory. As such, there is only 1 or 2 choice you must prepare to pay more than 2x that of same capacity as DDR3 one.

buy second hand pieces on the marketplace.

for DDR2 maximum is 2gb per stick, so if ur motherboard have 2 slots max is 4gb. fastest speed is 800mhz, 1 step down is 667mhz and so on..

DDR2 RAMs are out of production long ago. As such no manufacturer is making them anymore and shops that have them are all leftover stocks. Recommended to buy 2nd hand cause 1st hand really expensive. Not sure whether DDR2 RAM have lifetime warranty?

the prices keep going up... getting rarer these days

TS i also have a acer aspire desktop that i wanted to upgrade. it had 2 x 1gb 667mhz sticks. juz so happen my other diy PC motherboard spoil so i transfer the 2 x 2gb 800mhz sticks over, no issues.

note that some motherboard cannot handle 800mhz. the way the motherboards deals with this also varies. ive heard some will drop the speed to 667 for it to be compatible. other motherboard will simply not work. the latter is rare though

Oh haha...what's your motherboard model? Can u see any speed difference from the upgrade? ( 2x1GB 667mhz to 2x2GB 800mhz)

there is no speed difference for 800 vs 667. 2gb vs 4gb can see difference
