[Advice]Upgrading my current PC.

Hello. I am thinking of upgrading my current PC due to some budget issue on getting a new generation's PC so i post this thread.

I am actually using a Compaq Presario SR5890D desktop PC where i did some changes after some failing down. And i would wonder is it advisable to continue upgrade as i think that the processor inside would still able to withstand much more if i upgrade.

So therefore, Here is my current spec that my desktop is running :

PSU : What i know is a 500w power supply...
Motherboard : NVIDIA GeForce 7100/NVIDIA nForce 630i
Processor : Intel Core2Quad Q9400 running @ 2.66 GHz
RAM : 4GB DDR2 PC2-6400 (800 MHz)
Graphics : Nvidia GT610 1GB
Storage 1 : 120GB Sandisk Extreme II SSD
Storage 2 : 2TB Western Digital Green

Eg. Gaming? Surfing net?

My current pc uaage is for gaming as well as video processing. Budget wise approximately 300 and lower if possible.

4gb more ddr2 ram = about $100
then use the rest and get a gtx 750ti

I was planning to add another 4gb although there's another 2 slots of ram in the motherboard. But the board only supports up to 4gb so...

If your OS is 32-bit, then adding 4gb more is a waste.. The limitation of ram is by your OS, not your mobo.

Hmm I wouldn't recommend to get additional DDR2 RAM as DDR2 is becoming more and more obsolete.
U can upgrade ur graphics card for a start.
If gaming still seems to be laggy, sell ur old processor+mobo+ram and fund for new ones.

But i thought higher requires higher pcie ver?

mobo limitation on ram? wtf, its the os 32 bit that will limit your ram

His mobo really limited to just 4gb ram... i went to google.

BTW, you can sell at marketplace. But, with the technology that old, hardly anyone will buy. You can just donate it to charity.

True that os 32bit restricts up to 4gb. But now its my mobo that restrict beyond it. Verified by hp agent online.

So now other than selling, there's nothing i can upgrade?

Not worth to upgrade.... Sell also cant get much... I think $100-200 also hard le..

Best is to reuse your WD green and ssd. The rest must go if you wanna overhaul.

Your Core 2 Quad has still got some use, but really there's no point upgrading anymore, there's a whole generation gap between yours and what's available now.

So better save up more for these:

CPU+MB: Intel Core i5-4440 + ASRock H81M-HDS @ $298
RAM: ADATA Premier DDR3-1600 CL11 8GB @ $90
GPU: Zotac GTX 750 Ti 2GB @ $207
PSU: FSP Aurum S 500W [80 Plus Gold] @ $89

Total: $684

In the meanwhile, you can go for the above BOLD upgrades with your $300, then slowly upgrade the entire CPU platform later...

Oh and don't forget to climb Mt Redmond for 7 64 bit...

It is really a harsh answer using Crysis... But its need to really surrender that my PC really need some rest on this kind of game. Ill go down to SLS around this week to check that out! Thanks
