Advise for a new rig

My old pc has just died on me, have been using prebuilt dell pc all these years. Time to take a step out into building one myself since there isn't much options left in the market for pc.

Just need a rig that can support daily usage of web surfing and mails checking photoshop etc and the upcoming bf4.

Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.
Budget hopefully below 1.5K excluding monitor k/b and mouse.

Can I also ask if the MSI z77a series motherboard are good? Friend has been recommending me to get a hold of one of this. Seems like the mostly recommended ones out there are Asrock and Asus motherboard.

Currently in the market locally, MSI is the one to go for value as it is the cheapest somehow.

Consider something along the line of "B" 85 series of motherboard.

If you want you can consider taking out the RAM(if it is using DDR3), Hardisk (HDD), and DVD drive frm your old Dell PC, if those are not the component that gone bad. All those thing cloud save u from 100 to 150 bucks, which can be throw into getting a better graphic card.

Btw you should be looking at 760GTX (Gigabyte SRP is $409, but shop selling for $500, need to let the price settle down) Or AMD 7950 boost. which is around around $400+ range.

For the CPU i think i5-4570 (3.2 Ghz, 4core) would fit nicely into your budget. Bundle that with MSI B85M - G43 would set u back by $363. Bestbuy SLS.

Add in a solid state hard disk to install your windows. Recommended would be Plextor M5Pro. 128GB for balance of performance n price.

Alright. Thanks m3. Yes i'll be salvaging my HDD and DVD drive from my old cpu. Will need to check on the ram again.

For the gpu, im considering the 7950 as suggested by m3.
If in future i need to add on another gpu, will it be possible to do so?

For dual or more GPUs, you need to look at the mobo specs to see if it has 2 or more GPU slots (PCI 16x)..

And you have to see if the mobo support Crossfire or SLI... High end mobos most of the time support both..

I prefer Nvdia GPUs anyway..

Those are msi gaming mobo. B75 has one too

Go *87 series with Haswell. Supposedly less power consumption n lower heat from CPU. Newer also and price difference not a lot.

Asus *87 series also not bad. Gold series. Lol.

The most important thing to take note is that ivy bridge 3xxx is at the end of its lifespan.

Haswell just started it's lifespan, and will be compatible with 9 series chipset.

Thing is by the time I wanna change the chipset it will be like 3-5 years later and I am guessing it won't be 1150 socket nor compatible. So why bother? Technology is advancing way too fast. So basically for a gaming rig 3470 will be better than 4570? As in temperature wise. Plus the price is at least a hundred bucks more. Can save that hundred and get a better gpu. Only thing is 4570 has hyperthreading. I also realised the price of ib cpu and mobo going up. Seems like there are trying to get people to go with Haswell but shouldn't they be clearing stock for ib? Find that weird. IMO the performance for Haswell isn't worth it's price. I'll rather wait for the next Tick than get Haswell

I am thinking along the same lines as you...Why care about compatibility...so I am still torn between i3570k or i4670k $150 difference

i based my decision to get the 4570 myself on the fact that it might be hard to rma the ivy bridge processor/mobo in the next few years (if it breaks down).

As long as still in warranty they will have to do something. Maybe the give you a 1150 and haswell cpu if they can't rma? Don't think all 1155 boards will just disappear la. Maybe won't find them in shops as much but I'm pretty sure still can rma. Haha. Just don't think haswell is worth $150. Broadwell will be out in 2015. I plan to get ib still, maybe I'm just stubborn?

Im leaning more to the z77 series to try on oc.
With regards to the gigabyte 760, how does it fare in performance compared to the msi 7950 tf3? In terms of gaming.
Couldnt remember where i found out the website where i could select thr graphic card and they do a comparison in terms of temperature and fps for all the graphic intensive games nowadays.

Any recommendations on a casing and cpu cooler also. Many thanks

If you are settling for a ib oc system then get the 3570k.

Personally i build my ib system about 2 weeks before haswell released.

Yes it was a pain in my eyes after 2 weeks when i walked down SLS and saw a new promo. But then again after i think about it i didnt regret getting my 3470.

Basically i think that you could save up that extra amount and get something more important like gfx card.
