Advise for first Cloud NAS

Been using for Dropbox for a while, time for some upgrade due to file size bursting my dropbox storage.

I would like to know some of the Cloud NAS like Synology & WD Cloud does it function the same as Dropbox?
Like Dropbox? They would create a folder on your computer and auto sync to your cloud NAS.

Planning to get to store all movies and series & working on AutoCAD or Photoshop files. Mostly personal storage that could be shared within home network with my family but i would love to have access out of home.

Also for the WD Cloud 4TB single bay i read up and it does backup via external HDD is it worth it to get 2 bay or a single bay with USB external HDD (Does it do auto backup or its a manual backup)

Or is there any cheaper and more friendly user option similar or as close to Dropbox / Google Drive feature?

Synology is expensive for one reason
You pay for the apps
Basically, you can sync MULTIPLE GoogleDrive / DropBox to 1x Synology
If that is what you want, go for it

The rest, think of it as being able to access your storage from somewhere else

2 Bays Raid1 is good enough. You don't need Raid5'

Those 2 bay Branded NAS like WD / Seagate, they are value for money and are usually cheaper than if you buy a synology + 2x drives.

You use before Dropbox / G Drive ?
I think basically your HDD act like a server for storage like Dropbox/Gdrive and there are apps or website able to login to ur devices?

This is as far i know from my research lol ...

Still no time to go do up my nas.. HDD prepared Liao but just haven decide on which nas setup to go for..

Oh means there’s a specific app to access data? Hope it’s encrypted and got password lock

you can go for synology. the most reliable one i known so far. previously was using seagate nas but their nas os is crap but hardware is good. for this nas, you can choose to encrypt your data and you can use synology app to access. it has password lock to prevent other users from accessing your data too. it has 2 factor authentication too.

Is there an installation for PC version?
Like a dropbox folder i throw everything into the folder/working files from that folder, it auto sync to the NAS.

If not... Which model can do that? I

it does have a software that you can use but i don use their software. i manually map as a network drive and its like dropbox. i can throw files and pull out any files i want. you will be accessing directly to the nas hence no such thing as auto sync.

am currently using the ds416. quite decent for now. performing its job

Anyone uses WD Cloud Mirror or Single and Seagate Cloud could share your review? Appreciate if anyone own one can share their experiences !

I'm thinking to get the new WD My Cloud, mainly becuz its simple setup and works auto sync. Lon has some good review here: https://youtu.be/F17VmLLBZ3w Still couldn't find the price locally.

But one thing I would miss from my synology is the app support, especially plex

i hv never like an AIO NAS. i prefer to DIY myself. If harddisk failure, i simply replace the Harddisk or upgrade when space is insufficient or got the budget. Plus also, might be able to do some recovery in the event that the DIY NAS fail.

well, read write speed used to be a problem with WD / Seagate.

Recent years they've improved however.

my office IT is using VPN for me to access our office NAS folders. ><
