budget around 1.3k...getting all parts from tradepac and getting them to fix up also, mainly for daily usage and applications like surfing, movies and streaming, no k/m, monitor and OS needed and not sure to get gigabyte or asrock m/b

i5 4690k
gigabyte ga z97 d3h
asrock z97 pro 4
transcend 370 256gb
wd blue 1tb x 2
dual channel 4gb x2
gt730 ddr3 2gb gpu

how much power supply needed, 600w sufficient?

casing might be going for thermal take s31 or t31

appreciate feedback from fellow bros

any mobo should be fine as long you know what you intend to do... as for ssd... currently samsung is the best but transcend is not bad.. you can try...

hi bros

i will be going for i5 4690 but still unable to decide which mobo to get

Gigabyte GA Z97 D3H or Asrock Z97 Pro4

Both features seem quite similar and price difference is around $5, had bought my ssd evo 850 so for both boards there are sata express connection, so can the ssd connect to the sata express or just the normal sata3 points and also will a 500w psu be enough to support

pls pardon my ignorance as i am trying to diy for the 1st time so need to further clarify

thks a lot

Go small, go cute.

CPU+MB: Intel Core i3-4150 + ASUS H81I-PLUS @ $237
RAM: Crucial DDR3-1600 CL11 4GB X2 @ $76
SSD: Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB @ $158^ (Lazada Singapore)
HDD: HGST Deskstar NAS 3TB @ $160^ (Lazada Singapore)
ODD: Samsung 24X CD/DVD Writer [OEM] @ $21
CASE+PSU: Thermaltake SD101 + Powerman IP-AD180-2 180W Flex ATX [80 Plus Bronze] @ $139

Total: $791

Buy others from Tradepac, #05-18.

^Price after Lazada 10% discount (TBA later)

K CPU, Z motherboard, GPU are superfluous. HD 4400 on Core i3 will do the job very fine.

planning for future upgrades and ram already bought 1866 class and the m.2 connection

If you gonna use it for web surfing and movies then I see no point in any more further upgrade. Also, honestly what features can you benefit from the choosing a z97 series instead of h series boards... Tbh m.2 sata and normal sata speed real world not much difference.

But in the end still your money. Just go with what you are comfortable with can le. I too made the same mistake of not listening to bros here and bought a 4670 instead of 4460. End up spending slightly more for no visible perforance gains and could have used that money to go eat buffet instead.lastly not trying to slam ts or anything but if you decided what to buy le why still ask advices from the bros here?

hi bro

no offence but still prefer to go for 4690 with z97 build and will go for the hgst 3tb once lazada opens up the discount

so i deem that the ssd can only connect the normal sata3 6gb port rather than the sata express

no offence bro but i seldom upgrade my system unless needed, my current dual core lasted me 10 yrs and was bottlenecked when mobo failed and unable to get a suitable mobo in the mkt during the 6th yr so prefer to get a mobo that woo last quite some time

really appreciate some bros giving me advises and suggestions on wat to build

Bro nowadays mobo lifespan is mostly dependent on luck. If you are lucky can last for years, if you are not maybe 2 years bye bye. Z97 will not last longer than a h97 board just because it's more ex ma.

Also I would say an I3 will already be overkill for your usage, because daily simple use like surfing the net and movies won't requires the power of more than 2 cores. Even a Pentium would be sufficient to do the job le. Best way to prove this theory is to go down to challenger or courts and try out any of the I3 PC then try their I7 gaming PC. Bet you can't really feel the difference in terms of the web browsing and video playback smootheness.

the z97 would not be anymore future proof than even the H81. All these are the 1150 chipset and if in 5 years time, it's another chipset your z97 will also need to make way for the new cpu.

I understand vanity can be part of buying a diy pc. I'm excessive as well! I tend to go for looks. What im saying is if looks is yr priority, even a H81 has gamer series and it looks great. I know it sounds crazy but i buy cooler also based on looks lol.

Just giving u some options in case tats how yr approaching it. In fact, for your purpose, even a pentium will suffice. I own a pentium too and believe me, it's fast enough, actually quite fast tat it took me by surprise for everyday use and it will last through the years for such basic tasks. since cpu can't see, your system will look great.

As i said, if yr intention is for yr system to last, the cheap items suggested here will def stick around for some years to come. btw, what chassis are u using?

thks for all the advises, really appreciate all for taking the time and effort to provide inputs

intending to drop the z97 and 4690 concept now so just to chk any significant difference between 4160(3.6) and 4460(3.2)

although i dun do gaming but i do a lot of processing work, file transfer, music, heavy surfing and streaming cause my wife woo open many tabs at once

already bought 4gbx2 kingston hyper x fury 1866mhz, samsung evo 850 250gb, odd will use back old one, gpu might go for gt730 2gb which i think more than enough and hdd will wait for lazada hgst 3tb as suggested by bro moneyface

so can advise on the mobo (h87 or z87) and which cpu to get either between 4160 or 4460 as budget is still within my expectations and can afford to spare for a better range

for casing i was preparing to go for coolermaster cm690iii but seems too overrated, prefer a full black mid tower with proper ventilation with both usb2 and usb3 at the front i/o interface

for psu really no idea how much watt to get but after all the cut back on the cpu and mobo, think can go for a better psu and nice casing

os not needed as already have win 7 pro 64 bit

thk u all for your patience
